經過實地反覆觀測,李鬱和劉波在微線體天台視力範圍內選定了《地圖》項目新的最佳地點,並於2019年6月30日在現場實施完成。自此,他們在「真實」的空間裡又「虛擬」出了一個新的科學而精確的「地圖位置圖標」,歡迎大家隨時來「定位」。
【作品概念】
博爾赫斯寫過一篇《論科學的精確性》,網上很難找到相關的資料。豆瓣上有一篇讀書筆記,提到這篇極短的小說,筆記作者引用《地圖控》(MAPHEAD)一書作者的觀點,認為博爾赫斯是受到路易斯·卡羅一篇故事的啟發,想像出一個帝國的地圖學家們精確地繪製了一幅跟國土的面積相同並完全契合的地圖,但後人們認為這麼大的地圖無用,所以任由其荒廢,如今只能在偏遠的沙漠地區還能找到這張地圖的殘跡。安伯託·艾柯也曾據此寫了一篇嚴謹而荒誕的《繪製1:1帝國地圖之不可能》,他從實用的角度出發,建議改進這張地圖,讓某些地方成為透明,不再遮蔽農作物的生長,然而他也意識到,這樣的改變會讓這張地圖不再精確。讀書筆記的作者最後說道(或是引用《地圖控》書中內容):「如今,真正如此精確的地圖正在手機上,非常正確地存在著。」
確實如此,如今人們的手機和電腦中必然存在一款地圖或導航程序,每當我們去不那麼熟悉的地方之前,都會在這個導航地圖上設定一個精確的坐標,這個終點和自動生成的起點會呈現出兩個名為「地圖位置圖標(Map Location Icon)」的氣球狀圖案,中間路徑則根據選項的不同可以有多種變化。我們使用微信等手機App約定見面地點時,也會有類似的經驗,知情者或先到者發送一個「位置」,這個精確的定位立刻以「地圖位置圖標」的形式顯示在其他人的手機地圖之中,引導我們趨向同一地點。這個氣球狀的小圖案已經成為不可或缺的膜拜對象,幫助我們認識生活的此在與彼岸,在物理空間上,它引我們出門,領我們回家。好像不會再有另一個虛擬空間標誌物,能夠引領我們的身體進行如此實實在在的移動了。在公園或商場等比較複雜的環境裡,那種幫助顧客知道「我在這裡」的平面圖上的標誌以前通常是一個紅色圓點,現在也越來越多的以「地圖位置圖標」的氣球狀圖案來顯示,這種微妙的變化模糊了虛擬和現實的界限。
2010年夏天,東湖藝術計劃的主要發起人李巨川,在該項目的主頁上通過代碼引用了一幅東湖的谷歌地圖,每當一個參與者在東湖附近某個地點完成一件藝術創作,他就通過自定義功能,讓地圖相應的坐標點上出現一個「地圖位置圖標」作為記錄和連結。李鬱在電腦前看著地圖上的標誌越來越多,直到有一天想出一個作品,他來到東湖的西南角,在那裡的一個建築物上貼了一個和「地圖位置圖標」形狀顏色相同但放大了很多的氣球狀圖案。之後東湖藝術計劃谷歌地圖上的對應位置,也出現了這個圖標。
這算是一次初步的嘗試。直到2018年,李鬱和劉波計劃尋找不同的場地進一步實施這個作品。他們將這個虛擬符號移植到真實環境中,據此將其周圍變化成一幅「地圖」,用另一種方式再現路易斯·卡羅和博爾赫斯的想像。當低頭族從虛擬空間裡抬起頭,看見這個符號出現在城市街頭,或許能引發他們短暫的迷惑和思索。也許可以這樣說:我們很難想像自己生活在別人的夢裡,也不敢相信一個電腦程式能虛擬出我們的世界,但不難發現,我們每個人,都忙碌地行走在這幅科學而精確的地圖之中。

Project Introduction
On the basis of repeated field observation, Yu Lee and Bo Liu selected the new best location of the <Map Location Icon> project on the rooftop of Microneme, and completed it on the scene on June 30, 2019. Since then, they have 「virtualized」 a new scientific and precise 「Map Location Icon」 in their 「reality」 space. Welcome to 「locate」 at any time.
Map Location Icon
Concept:
Jorge Luis Borges wrote an article named <The Accuracy of Science>, and it is very difficult to find its relevant information on the Internet. There is a reading note about this article on Douban, the note writer quoted the author of <MAPHEAD> and thought that Borges was inspired by a story of Lewis Carroll, imagining an empire's cartographer who accurately mapped a map that has the same size as the land, but later people thought it was useless and then abandoned it, maybe its remains can be only found in remote desert now. Based on this, Amberto Echo once wrote a rigorous and absurd article named <Impossibility of Drawing a Map of the Empire of 1:1>, he suggested to improve this map in a more practical way, to make certain places more transparent and not to hide the growth of the crops any more, then he realized that such changes will make this map no longer accurate. In the end, the note writer said (or quoted from <MAPHEAD >): "Today, the maps on the phone are so accurate."
Indeed, there is definitely a map or navigation program in people’s mobile phones and computers. Every time we go to an unfamiliar place, we will set a precise coordinate on this navigation map. The destination point and the automatically generated starting point will be presented as two balloon-shaped patterns named "Map Location Icon", and the intermediate path can be variable due to different route. For instance, when we are using the mobile app such as WeChat to set up a meeting place, the insider or the first-come person will send a 「location」, this precise positioning will be displayed on other people's mobile phone immediately as "Map Location Icon" , then it can lead us to the same destination. This small balloon-shaped pattern has become an indispensable object of our worship, by helping us to understand each other, in its physical space, it leads us to the outside and leads us home. It seems that there will be no more virtual space markers that will physically lead our body to move. In the complex environments such as parks or shopping malls, the marker that helps customers to know that "I am here" used to be a red dot, but now most of them have been replaced by the balloon-shaped "map location icons", this subtle change has blurred the boundaries between virtual and reality.
In the summer of 2010, Juchuan Lee, who is the main sponsor of the East Lake Art Project, he quoted a Google map of the East Lake via code as the homepage of the project, and when a participant completed an artistic creation at a place near the East Lake, by using the customized function, there will be a "Map Location Icon" on the corresponding coordinate, he will keep it as its record and link. Yu Lee found that there were more and more icons in the computer, and one day he came up with the project, then he came to the southwest corner of the East Lake and attached a magnified balloon-shaped "Map Location Icon" on one building. Later, this icon also appeared in the corresponding location on the Google map of East Lake Art Project.
This was a preliminary attempt, until 2018, Yu Lee and Bo Liu has planned to find different venues to implement this project. They tried to transplant this virtual icon into the reality and then changed its surroundings into a 「map」, and reproduced the one-to-one empire map envisioned by Lewis Carrol and Borges in another way. Let's put it this way, when a low-headed man raises his head from the virtual space and sees this symbol on the city street, it may stunned him and caused him to thinking. Maybe we can say that: It is hard to imagine that we live in the dreams of others, and we can't believe that a computer program can virtualize our world, but it is easy to find that each of us is busy walking in this scientific and precise map.

李鬱+劉波是武漢的藝術組合。李鬱1973年生於湖北武漢,1995年畢業於華中師範大學信息技術系;劉波1977年生於湖北石首,2001年畢業於湖北美術學院油畫系。
他們曾在北京泰康藝術空間、伊比利亞當代藝術空間、挪威波什格倫藝術中心、武漢K11藝術村、湖北美術學院美術館等地舉辦個展。

Yu Lee + Bo Liu is an art group in Wuhan. Yu Lee was born in 1973 in Wuhan(Hubei Province). He graduated from the School of Educational Information Technology of Central China Normal University in 1995. Bo Liu was born in 1973 in Shishou(Hubei Province). He graduated from the Oil Painting Department of Hubei Institute of Fine Arts in 2001.
They have held solo exhibitions in the below place: Beijing Taikang Space, Iberia Center for Contemporary Art, Porsgrunn Art Society, Wuhan K11 Art Foundation and the Art Museum of Hubei Institute of Fine Arts, etc.
