Historically Significant.On this day in 1532, Spanish explorer and conquistador, Francisco Pizarro had trapped Incan emperor, Atahualpa. Having enticed the Incan emperor, Pizarro had his men open fire to a feast that was in the honour of the emperor.
Pizarro had chosen this moment in time to attack Atahualpa because the Incan Empire was in chaos and engulfed in a civil war.
Pizarro and his men had captured Atahualpa, after killing the unarmed Incans close to the emperor. Atahualpa was forced to convert to Christianity, but he was to be killed soon after.
This event had signalled the end of the Inca Empire. Disintegrating at a remarkable rate, European colonisation of South America had filled in for the power vacuum that the Inca Empire had brought about itself.
