可數名詞(Countable Nouns)
可數名詞是指可以計數的名詞。因為可數，所以有單數名詞與複數名詞之分。
單數可數名詞前面一定要有限定詞，複數可數名詞前面則不能有不定冠詞 a/an。
She is a writerand he is an artist .
她是一名作家，他是一名藝術家。
writer 和artist 都是單數可數名詞，前面要有限定詞，如： a, an。
I left my cell phoneon the bus .
我把手機放在公車上。
cell phone 和bus 都是單數可數名詞，前面要有限定詞，如： my, the。
今天早上我吃了個橘子。I ate orange this morning.道歉始於你對所犯的錯誤的完全承認。Apology starts with full acknowledgement of wrong you have committed.複數可數名詞前面可以有定冠詞 the。加the表示特定的，不加the則是泛指一般性的。
All the orangeson the table are gone.
桌子上的所有橘子都沒了。
the oranges 加the 表示特定的，指放在桌子上的那些橘子。
I like oranges.
我喜歡橘子。
不加定冠詞的oranges 泛指一般性的。
我非常努力學習英語，我通常英語測試會拿到最佳成績。I study English very hard and I usually get the best grades on the English tests.有些字既可以當可數名詞又可以為不可數名詞。
我們也可以用量詞 a few和many來修飾複數可數名詞
A few weeksago, I was very sick.
幾個星期前，我病得很厲害。

量詞many 修飾複數可數名詞brothers。

「The number of" 與」The amount of" 後面的名詞
The number of guestswe estimated for this party was incorrect.
我們估計這個宴會賓客的數目是不正確的。
複數名詞"guests"前面用「The number of"來表示；句子的主詞是"number", 不是"guests"，所以動詞用「was」， 而非"were"。
川普總統將使在美國被允許的難民人數減少一半以上。President Trump will slash the number of refugee allowed in the US by more than half.
The amount of timefor this project was underestimated.
這個計劃所需要的時間被低估了。
不可數名詞"time" 前面用"The amount of" 來表示。
