In our 3rd unit of the semester, we learned a lot about the life cycle of a plant. We watched videos to help us learn each stage of a plant’s life cycle, we compared different types of plants, and we studied all the different ecosystems where plants can grow. We learned that plants grow in almost every ecosystem on the planet, not just in forests! We researched maps that showed us which types of trees can survive in different climates. Our vocabulary for the past 4 weeks centered heavily around parts and jobs of plants. We learned that all plants have life cycles and that there are many different types of plants (shrubs, trees, flowers, vines, herbs, and weeds, to name a few!) We learned that not all plants have stems, leaves, or even fruits and flowers! Some plants are big and strong, while other plants are small and weak. There are plants that grow by 「climbing」 on the sides of buildings as well as plants that only 「creep」 along the ground!
In our English classes, we reviewed what resources a plant needs to survive as well as drew pictures to label each part of a plant. To conclude our fun science unit about plants, all of our 3rd grade English classes had the opportunity to put our knowledge to use by planting seeds of our own! After we placed our cups filled with future sprouts in our classroom windowsills, we wrote about our experiences. We used sentence frames to make complete sentences about our favorite part of planting and also what we predicted our seeds would blossom into. We are so excited to see what grows!
