流星雨：Meteor shower
流星雨是可數的，表示一場流星雨，可用a meteor shower來表達。
獵戶座流星雨因其著名的母體彗星——哈雷彗星而聞名於世。這顆人類歷史上第一個確認其周期的彗星，「孕育」了每年上半年的寶瓶座厄塔流星雨和下半年的獵戶座流星雨。
天文專家通報，本月21日，有著「哈雷彗星」血統的獵戶座流星雨將迎來極大，每小時流星數20顆左右。
對於我國公眾來說，最佳觀測時間段為21日凌晨至黎明之前。天文資料顯示，獵戶座流星雨每年活躍期幾乎覆蓋整個10月，其特徵非常明顯，流星速度快，亮流星多，而且呈白色，峰值流量持續時間長，這些特點都令其更適合公眾觀測。

太陽系內，除了太陽、八大行星及其衛星、小行星外，在星際間還存在著大量的塵埃微粒和微小的固體塊，它們圍繞著太陽運動。
在接近地球時，受到地球引力而被地球吸引進入大氣層，在高速運動中會與大氣層摩擦燃燒划過天際，就是我們所熟知的流星現象。

單個、偶然出現的流星稱為偶發流星，沒有固定的時間和方位。而當星空中某一輻射點向四周迸發出多顆流星時，我們稱之為流星雨。
流星監控軟體在持續錄像過程中，始終將過去的視頻幀暫時緩存在內存中，當有觸發事件發生時，也就是流星划過監控區域時，引起了光度變化，流星監控軟體才會將觸發事件前後大約1秒的視頻幀保存至硬碟中，自動記錄流星划過的瞬間。

在流星監測時，往往會設置多個站點監測一個共同的監測區域。
當有兩個以上監測點同時記錄到一顆流星時，通過拍攝到的畫面，經過專用軟體分析處理，可以計算出流星的亮度、高度、速度以及運行軌道等數據。
