The Procuratorial Daily (檢察日報 Jiǎnchá Rìbào), a news platform run by China’s highest prosecuting office, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, recently published a post on its official Weibo account regarding children wrongly take medicines and lead to physical dysfunction. After the vaccine scandal, this is another alert for the medicine issue in China.
The recent propaganda video regarding safely taking medicine went viral on internet, the five-year-old girl named Fu Xinuo girl became deaf after taking medicines for killing the cold symptoms, she said on the video:" My ability in listening become weaker and weaker, I know they were talking to me but I find it difficult to hear anything."

Stories like those of Fu and other deaf children in China are not simply because parents are ignorant and give their children adult medication, thinking that they are 「miniature versions」 of themselves.
In reality, the root cause behind the over 30,000 child victims is twofold—the overuse of antibiotics inside China and a lack of government support to provide better medication for children.
A report by Chinese news portal Tencent in January 2015 revealed a darker reality: over 300,000 children under the age of seven have become deaf because of improper use of antibiotics. While the number accounted for 30 to 40 percent of all deaf and mute children in China, the percentage was less than 1 percent in developed countries.
Compounding the problem of improper use of antibiotics is the fact that China does not have any law, regulation, or a monitoring mechanism overseeing medication specifically for children, according to Tencent. The result of such lack of support from the Chinese authorities is that doctors prescribe adult medicines to children.
Medication issues threat the life of every person, the Procuratorial Daily listed the common medicines that can be found at pharmaceutical stores but can cause strong side effect to us, if children overdose these medicines, it will cause more serious problems.
Medicines for killing cold symptoms
1. Pediatric Paracetamol（小兒氨酚黃那敏）
Overdose is the leading cause of liver failure in children. In the United States, it's not recommended to feed children paracetamol under 4 years old.
2. Pseudoephedrine（偽麻美芬滴劑、美敏偽麻溶液）
Overdose symptoms may include feeling restless or nervous and difficult to breath. it's not recommended to feed children pseudoephedrine under 4 years old.
Medicines for killing cough symptoms
1. Cough killer that contains cocaine(強力枇杷露、複方甘草片、羚貝止咳糖漿)
Taking for a long time causes addiction, children under 12 years old are forbidden to take medicines containing cocaine.
2. Cough killer that contains Promethazine(傷風止咳糖漿、複方桔梗枇杷糖漿）
Stong side effect, it worsens the respiration system of children or even causes them to die. World Health Organization have ever warned the danger of children under 2 taking medicine contains promethazine.
Medicines for antipyretic
1. Nimesulide(尼美舒利)
It causes children liver damage and hurts their central nervous system. Children under 12 years old are forbidden to take Nimesulide.
2. Metamizole Sodium(安乃近)
The United States has been banned for 40 years. It is easy to cause thrombocytopenic purpura, autoimmune hemolysis, aplastic anemia, anaphylactic shock, and even death.
3. Antonin (安痛定)
Not recommended in any case. The same as Metamizole Sodium, it is easy to cause leukopenia and anaphylactic shock.
4. Aspirin/lysine(賴氨匹林）
Not recommended in any case. It can lead to serious brain adverse reactions - Swiss syndrome, symptoms such as convulsions, vomiting, and coma, it can even lead to death.
Medicines for antiallergic
1. Promethazine Hydrochloride(異丙嗪)
Children under 2 years old are not recommended. Side effects include irritability, hallucinations, abnormal muscle tone, apnea and even sudden death.
2. Chlorpheniramine, cyproheptadine, diphenhydramine (氯苯那敏、賽庚啶、苯海拉明)
Children under 2 years old are not recommended. Side effects include drowsiness, inattention, irritability, gastrointestinal disorders, and excessive appetite.
Medicines for digest system
The medicines below have strong side effects, not recommended to children.
1. Sulfasalazine(柳氮磺吡啶）
2. Ranitidine(雷尼替丁）
3. Bisacodyl(比沙可啶）
4. Omeprazole(奧美拉唑）
5. Scopolamine(東莨菪鹼）
Antibiotic
1. Gentamicin(慶大黴素)
It belongs to aminoglycoside antibiotics and has a risk of causing children to the deaf.
2. Cephalosporin, Penicillin, Andmycin(頭孢、培南、黴素)
So far, Without specific instruction on how children take it.
