說到 farther 就想起「老爸」---father，在英式發音中，這兩個詞的讀音是一樣的。
farther 作為 far 的比較級，也讓我們想起更多的不規則比較級變化：good / well--better; much / many---more; little -- less; ill / bad -- worse。
那麼，farther 和 further 怎麼去區別呢？有的同學知道 farther 用於具體的時候，further 用於抽象的比較。不如這樣說更明白：表示「能夠測量」的距離更遠的時候，farther 和 further 都能用，但如果是「不可測量的」，比如「更加深遠、更深入、更深厚」這樣的含義，則只能用 further。
如：
The climbers were so tired that they could not move farther / further. 登山者太疲憊了，不能再往前走了。
The farm is much farther from here. 農場離這裡要遠得多。
The problem needs further discussion. 這個問題需要深入討論。
They both want to have further studies on the subject. 他們倆都想對這個課題進行深入研究。
