故事梗概：
很久以前，美麗的金天鵝是鳥族的國王，他的女兒天鵝公主長大了，國王召集全體鳥類舉行了一個聚會，許多鳥都遠道而來。國王金天鵝讓女兒選擇自己的丈夫。黃金天鵝公主被一隻祖母綠寶石孔雀吸引，選定他為自己的丈夫。知道自己是幸運的後，孔雀開始自負地炫耀自己色彩鮮豔的羽毛，他忘卻了所有的謙虛，變得驕傲自大。

Standinginthe midstofthegreatassemblyofbirds,thekingsaid,「Sirpeacock,yourvoiceissweet,yourfeathersarebeautiful,yourneckshineslikeanemerald,andyourtailislikeasplendidfan.Butyouhavedancedherelikeonewhohasnopropershameorfear.Iwillnotpermitmyinnocentdaughtertomarrysuchanignorantfool!」
Then King Golden Swan married his goldendaughtertoaroyalnephew.Thesillystruttingpeacockflewaway,havinglostabeautifulwife.
Onceuponatime,thebirdswereattractedtobeauty,sotheychosetheGoldenSwanastheirking.
KingGoldenSwanhadabeautifulgoldendaughter. Whileshewasstillyoung,hegrantedheronewish.Shewished that, when she was oldenough,shecouldpickherownhus-band.

Shelookedoverthemanybirds.Hereyewasat-tractedbyashiningemerald（綠寶石，翡翠）-greenlong-neckedpeacock（孔雀）,withgorgeousflowingtailfeathers.Shetoldherfather,「Thisbird,thepeacock,willbemyhusband.」
Hearingthathewastheluckyone,alltheotherbirds crowded around the peacockto congratulatehim.Theysaid,「Evenamongsomanybeautifulbirds,thegoldenswanprincesshaschosenyou.Wecon-gratulateyouonyourgoodfortune.」
