今年十一月五日，來自全美各地的學生參加了2016年 JEI 全國作文競賽。十二月份，比賽結果揭曉，JEI李文斯頓學習中心有十一位同學因優秀的寫作才能在此次作文競賽脫穎而出，榮獲作文比賽頂獎，尤其一舉拿下八年級的前三名。 和去年一樣，成為全國參賽獲獎最多的學習中心。熱烈祝賀JEI李文斯頓的小作家們！
JEI李文斯頓的負責人Julia博士表示，看見我們這麼多學生認識到寫作技能是可以通過孜孜不倦的奮鬥和努力得以提高的，實在是令人激動且意義非凡的一件事。作為校長，我的目的之一是讓我們的學生充滿自信地大膽地演講和在寫作中暢所欲言。
一年一度的JEI 全國作文競賽旨在考查二到八年級學生創新寫作和文學鑑賞能力。在美國和加拿大共有88個地區的289 名學生參賽，JEI李文斯頓有38名同學參加比賽，是今年參賽人數最多的學習中心。
在比賽中，每個學生有60分鐘的時間根據各自年級題目寫一篇作文。每篇作文在內容和主旨，文章結構，語法規則，詞彙，選詞及文章風格和獨特的聲音五個方面每方面以十分來評定。學生和家長會拿到成績單來說明該學生作文的各項表現。
JEI李斯頓學習中心成立於2014年，由Julia Guo博士創辦。Julia博士以在紐約大學，麻省理工學院和默克藥廠當博士科學家的經驗，給教育領域帶來獨特的創新。Julia對教育的熱情感染著她僱用的每一位老師。每位工作在JEI李文斯頓學習中心的教師都像她一樣以對教育的無比熱愛和對事業的執著追求來對待每位學生。Julia博士把寫作作為JEI李斯頓學習中心的教學重點，她認為強大的文學功底是每個人在事業上獲得長期成功的關鍵。

My A-Ha moment, by E. L. Grade 3Two years ago on a summer afternoon, my mom saw a bunch of people riding their bikes and she told me, "I want you to learn how to ride a bike." At the sound of that, I was horrified. I couldn't believe she was doing this!
I felt a little better when she got on to YouTube. After watching the video, mom took my bike and took off the pedals. I knew she was going to have me learn balancing first. She had to remove the pedals because the pedals could hurt my legs. It was super easy to get balance then. All you have to do is walk around!
Next mom added one of the pedals. It was harder to the balance. I wobbled a few times, but eventually I got it. I kept leaning to keep my balance. I don't know how you are supposed to get balance with one pedal without leaning.
Then I got two pedals to train with! And we're off the driveway. Yay! What? We were moving towards the grass? Not yay. How are you supposed to balance on grass? It seemed impossible! "Oh, so it is possible," I thought after I tried. But it was so hard to balance, and it was so funny when I fell, so when I got home, mom laughed at me.
The next day, I managed to pass the "grass level." I spent basically the whole day working on balancing on the grass. I thought, "At least tomorrow I will go to my school - Mount Pleasant Elementary School - to train. I'm glad I got this far."
Finally, we were at Mount Pleasant. I was so excited! "I know how to balance, Mom, so will you stop holding me?" I asked. I had no idea what she had planned for today.
"You will be learning how to turn."
No wonder she was holding on to me. When she finally let go, I was perfect! Mom told me I could ride my bike home. There were fences surrounding where I was training and on the way out, my bike fell and I crashed into a fence. Some of my skin peeled off, but I was grateful for what I had learned.
Now if I have my parents' permission, I can go pretty much anywhere where I won't get lost. Biking has become the favorite family activity, especially during summertime. I feel free, like an air bender. And more importantly, I'm not polluting the Earth.
In this world, society has gone past its days of flying pigeons or sending mail by horse riders. New inventions that made communication easier were constructed, such as the typewriter and the telegraph. Now, even superior approaches have come around. Text messages seem instantaneous to the naked eye, and calling a friend in real time across the world is now a reality. Even when the steps to more powerful communication seem impossible, there is one more step in the right direction, Discord. Discord is the best form of conversing ideas that has existed because of its user-friendly interface, security, and cutting edge technology.
Starting off, Discord is very user-friendly. It does not have a great learning curve, unlike its other competitors. Teamspeak 3 does not have a modern interface. According to makeuseof.com, Teamspeak's interface is, "a bit overwhelming. Even for a self-professed voice chat veteran like myself, I found it a little confusing. It presents you with a lot of information right away, which is great when you know what everything means, but until you get over that learning curve it will seem like unnecessary verbiage." Ventrilo has a similar layout to Teamspeak's pot of perplexity. Skype's interface is too friendly. It lacks control compared to other voice programs. Skype can only directly call, message, and group chat. The basic layout is under powering, and function truly is under powering as well. Discord combines power and usability into a perfect interface. Even if one does not understand how to use Discord, the program even presents a tutorial in the beginning that will surely clear up some confusion.
Continuing its greatness, text messaging and calling can be combined into one program with Discord. Even though there are alternatives to it, Discord is superior to the other programs. It has many more features than its competitors, including Ventrilo, Teamspeak, and Skype. One has the ability to create voice channels, call or message individual people, and create special servers where people can be assigned roles. In a video created by Battle(non)sense on Youtube, Discord secured itself second place in terms of lowest latency. This means that its voice chat is faster than many other options. If a server is destroyed or corrupted, Discord's backup system will shift to a different server and preserve data. It is available on Android, IOS, Windows, Mac OSX, and can be used with many popular browsers. In short, Discord does a better job than other dedicated communication programs. In this case, "I can do anything better than you" really is true.
With Discord, not a single person needs to dread their communication hacked or leaked. Discord uses very strong methods of encryption. Text is encrypted with Transport Layer Security(TLS). Browser voice chat is encrypted with Datagram Transport Layer Security(DTLS). Desktop voice chat is encrypted with XSalsa20. Transport Layer Security is the improvement of Secure Sockets Layer(SSL) encryption, known for its strong encryption as well. TLS is one of the most, if not the most widely used form of encryption. TLS uses a 256 bit key, a top-level encryption key. This method of encryption is also constantly being revised and improved to ensure the best security possible. DTLS is based on TLS and provides similar levels of security to it, according to the DTLS Wikipedia entry. XSalsa20 also has many tricks up its sleeve. The original Salsa20 method won the eSTREAM competition in 2007. The eSTREAM competition is a project that aimed to find new ways to replace other ways of encryption. XSalsa20, the newer version, improves the original Salsa20. For instance, the Salsa20 used a 64 bit key. XSalsa20 uses a 192 bit key, a vast improvement over its predecessor. All of these encryption methods have very strong ways of encrypting connections and hiding the key to release all information inside these connections.
Discord is no pigeon, mail delivery service, or regular messaging application. It only delivers the best and most modern ways of communicating and security available. For those who do not like to learn new things, Discord can alleviate the problems. For those who like something fresh and new, Discord can also be that. There is something in Discord for everybody, even you. Consider switching to Discord, it may be just what you want even if you don't know that it is.
