A Twitch streamer is receiving a wave of spiteful comments after her audience discovered that she is married to an Asian man.
Kaitlyn Siragusa, who goes by the handle Amouranth, is a model, cosplayer, costume designer and entrepreneur in Houston, Texas.
Amouranth has over 500,000 followers on Twitch, where she streams all sorts of content, from gym sessions to ASMR videos.
That fanbase appeared to be relatively stable until recently, when information about her private life was made public by angry followers, particularly that she is actually married to a man named Nick Lee.
Apparently, the backlash stems from the fact that Amouranth claimed to be single, which admirers saw as some sort of 「opportunity」 to think their donations entitled them to a false sense of ownership over her.
One fan even sent her a whopping $13,000 in one month.
「She has a more active sex life than I do, I’m single,」 she said in one of her streams, upholding a 「single」 fantasy for her followers.
Many expressed their outrage after the revelation. For one, a moderator of her Twitch channel severed ties.
Commenting on the issue, YouTube channel L OF THE DAY said that Amouranth claiming to be single is the same as lying to her fanbase for tens of thousands of dollars.
「The problem isn’t that you’re married. The problem isn’t that you’re keeping it a secret because you deserve that privacy. The problem is that you’re lying about it.」
「It’s one thing if you try to just never talk about your relationship status, but you actively tell people that you are single. And again I ask, why? Why wouldn’t you tell your supporters that you are in a relationship?
「And it clicked in my head that oh, it’s because they are your supporters and the reason they support you is because they believe that they have a chance to actually do something with you so therefore they give you this insane amount of money with high hopes of possibly maybe being you Nick Lee.」
Even more, part of the fury was reportedly directed to the fact that her husband is Asian, according to a reddit thread.
