Ethnic clashes hit parts of Ethiopia
Several civilians are believed to have been killed in three regional states, namely, Amhara, Afar and Beinshangul regional states, following attacks by militants and armed groups in these regions, The Reporter has learnt.
Officials statedthat many civilians believed to be from various ethnic groups living in these regions are believed to have lost their lives especially in Amhara and Beinshangul regions witnessing the worst atrocities in recent months.
The incident began a week ago, following a minor clash between an unnamed driver and a user of public transport in Metekel Zone, Beinshangul region,at a place called DangurWereda, according to local officials. Later, the disagreement between the two changed into a more serious fight leading to Federal Police being deployed to the area.（來源Reporter）

NEBE to speedup election preparations
The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) is speeding up its preparations for the upcoming 2020 elections, Birtukan Mideksa, Chairman of the Board said.Speaking to The Reporter after talks with the visiting UK Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt at the British Embassy in Addis Ababa, Birtukan said that her institution is working to conduct the upcoming election according to the schedule.「We are preparing in an accelerated manner and the Board is working to conduct the elections as scheduled. But, the preparation involves different tasks. We are beginning now and the Board is not yet complete in terms of membership. Conflict thwarts aid
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)was forced to briefly suspend its operation in Gambella Regional State due to security concerns, making it difficult for International aid agencies to perform their operation in Western Ethiopia,The Reporter has learnt. 「Due to recent security incidents in Gambella which resulted in some civilian fatalities, including refugees and a humanitarian worker, UNHCR has suspended missions to all the refugee camps since Monday, 29 April, as per the recommendation of the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS), reads an earlier statement issued. （來源Reporter）

Tana Forum Opens In Bahir Dar
The 8th edition of the Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa opened in the city of Bahir Dar, Amhara regional state, today.The official opening ceremony was attended by Ethiopian President Sahle-Work Zewde, Chairperson of the African Union Moussa Faki Mohamat, former Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama, and former South African President Thabo Mbeki.In her opening speech at the forum, President Sahle-Work hailed the tremendous developments in the horn of Africa as it has opened a new chapter to fully utilize the opportunities available.

Tanners air frustration over lack of incentives, FDI favoritisms
After years of debatable polices with regard to leather exports and value addition, the local tanneries and leather factories have once again voiced their frustration against the government on lack of support, incentives and its 「favoritism」 shown to foreign investors.
During a discussion held on the newly drafted national leather road map proposed by the Ministry of Trade and Industry, on Friday, local tanners have expressed their frustrations that the government’s policy that sought to encourage value addition on exported leather products locally through banning the export of unfinished leather had in fact exacerbated the decline of the sector and its export revenue. PM Abiy Confers with World Bank President David Malpass
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed conferred with World Bank Group president, David Malpass and his delegation in his office on Wednesday.
Malpass is taking his first oversea trip to three African countries including Ethiopia since assuming leadership of the World Bank Group on April 9, 2019.
Noting that Ethiopia is currently building a solid foundation with the ongoing economic reforms, the President affirmed that the World Bank’s continued its partnership with Ethiopia.
The World Bank Group is an important source of finance for Ethiopia’s development efforts, according to Office of the Prime Minister.

The Somali and Oromo people-to-people conference has been commenced in the city of Adam, Oromia regional state, today. Ethiopia Earns 103 Million USD Export Revenue from Industrial Parks
Addis Ababa April 30/2019 The Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC) disclosed that 103 million USD export has been generated from industrial parks in the past nine months.
The performance exceeded that of same period last fiscal year by 40 percent, it was learned. Investment Commissioner Abebe Abebayehu told ENA that 70 percent of the planned earning from industrial parks during the stated period has been accomplished. He added that footwear and other leather products as well as textiles and apparel have been exported to European countries, USA, Asia and other export destinations. Nation Preparing First Ever 10-Year Dev’t Plan
Planning and Development Commission said it is preparing the country’s first ever 10 year Perspective Development Plan. Upon finalization by June 2020, the plan will cover the period from July 2020 to 2030 to make it fit in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), according to ENA. Bahir Dar To Host Tana Forum This Weekend
The 8th Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa will be held 4 and 5 May in Bahir Dar, Amhara regional state. The theme for this year’s annual gathering is 「Political Dynamics in the Horn of Africa: Nurturing the Emerging Peace Trends.」 The Forum is an annual meeting that brings together African leaders and stakeholders to engage and explore African-led security solutions.
