Slavery does not simply belong to the bygone era despite the fact that it has been abolished since the 19th century. Actually in today’s world, modern slavery is blighting our society as well as violating human rights, involving approximately 21 million victims all over the world. Among those victims, people are forced to labor in agriculture, domestic work and factories; women are forced into prostitution; children in sweatshops are forced to work in extremely arduous conditions; even sometimes the entire families are forced to work for nothing but to pay off generational debts.
Generally, modern slavery can be categorized into various forms, among which forced labor, bonded labor and child labor are the three most urgent issues to cope with. Meanwhile almost all cases of modern slavery involve human trafficking and global supply chains, which make it a global tricky problem. Therefore international collaboration is needed. No country can flee away from the battle we face! No country can escape from the obligation to give it an end!
However, what are the underlying causes of the modern slavery? Why is modern slavery difficult to be eradicated? And how can the ILO committee motivate the international society to grapple with its sticking point?
The whole world is looking forward to hearing the voices from you! The whole world is counting on you, great elites in the 21th century, to lead the global fight against modern slavery in labor!
