Horrifying pictures of a dog pierced with two arrows and covered in blood on the streets of Chengdu surfaced on the internet recently, enraging netizens the world over. The dog was shot last Tuesday by someone involved in the dog meat trade, a clandestine ring that tracks down and shoots strays for chow.
Fortunately, a local Chengduian named Qiao Wei, was able to rescued the dog, and rush it to Chengdu's Qimin Small Animal Protection Shelter, where staff worked tirelessly to save the poor critter's life. A mere twelve hours later, the dog was well on the way to a speedy recovery, remarkable for an animal that had recently been turned into a canine pincushion (below).
Unfortunately, horrific animal abuse is a fairly common occurrence in China, as the country has no official laws protecting animals.
