在《新託福考試官方指南》的評分標準中
最高檔5分(對應最終分30分)在語言方面要求
「displays consistent facility in the use of language, demonstrating syntactic variety, appropriate word choice, and idiomaticity, though it may have minor lexical or grammatical errors」。
4分檔(對應最終分25分)在語言方面要求
「displays facility in the use of language, demonstrating syntactic variety and range of vocabulary, though it will probably have occasional noticeable minor errors in structure, word form, or use of idiomatic language that do not interfere with meaning」。
評分標準的4分和5分檔都提到了the use of language, idiomatic字眼，也就是語言的地道性。我曾跟多位參與過ETS評分的外教交流過，對於中國學生來說 「託福寫作就是考核中國學生根除中式英語表達的能力」。
市面上不少英語培訓機構的託福寫作老師總是反覆強調託福寫作邏輯、論證、架構的重要性，但是本質上來說，託福考試就是一場英語語言考試，託福寫作考的就是學生純正英文表達的能力。學生要達到這種能力，首當其衝的就是要徹底根除中式英語表達。
我給學生指導託福寫作的時候非常強調語言表達的地道性，也很注重幫助學生避免中文思維的幹擾。如果一篇託福寫作不存在任何的中式英語表達痕跡，那這篇託福寫作一般都會拿到20分以上（按滿分30分算）。相反，一篇存在較多中式英語和語法錯誤的寫作一般就是低分作文。
下面是我在教學實踐中總結出來的中國學生傾向犯的中式英語表達錯誤。對於ETS評分官來說，這些中式英語表達錯誤是比較嚴重的，一旦出現就直接導致扣分。
一個簡單句中出現兩個謂語動詞
例：
There are so many people compete for the position.
更正1：There are so many people competing for the position.
更正2：There are so many people who compete for the position.
動詞原形做主語
例：
I insist that join a sports team is the best way for us to make new friends.
更正：I insist that joining a sports team is the best way..
可數名詞單獨使用
例：
Employee can get more benefits from telecommuting than employer.
更正：Employees can get more benefits from telecommuting than employers.
時態混亂
例：
Although I have no work experience when I was a teenager, I always dream about having a job.
更正：Although I had no work experience when I was a teenager, I always dreamed about having a job.
重複累贅
例：
From my point of view, I think this argument is quite limited since many other ways can also help learning a foreign country.
更正：From my point of view, this argument is quite limited since many other ways can also help us learn a foreign country.
中文直接翻譯成英文
a：

更正：Thus, it’s easier for you to draw bosses』 attention and..
b：
