「Blue Ribbon」 – Rescue our Blue Sky
June 5-16, 1972, the inaugural UN conference on human environment was held in Stockholm with the enchanting motto 「we only have one earth」 and the Ground
-breaking "Declaration on the Human Environment", calling forth united effort for all human beings to protect the environment.
This is a solemn proclaim and also a solemn appeal: it's time that all humans take action to protect the environment.
Four months later on the 27th United Nations General Assembly, June 5th was established as the World Environment Day.
「Blue Ribbon」 – Rescue Our Blue Sky was initiated by a Chinese female artist Yadan Chen in 2017.
This movement has spread to the entire 34 provinces of China as well as Antarctica, the United States, Germany, Canada, New Zealand, Egypt, Japan, Cuba, Laos and Vietnam with hundreds of thousands of responses. The participants include artists, photographers, industrialists, urban residents, herders, fishermen, medical doctors, teachers, students from kindergarten to college, bus, EV and taxi drivers, pilots, janitors, couriers, mountaineers who mounted Everest, and a well-known centenarian painter…
In the following poem, Yadan Chen calls on us to join together because environmental protection needs the participation of the whole world.
The planet we live on.
Is a home we share together.
All living creatures, including you and me,
Should cherish it forever.
But now, everything is going wrong.
Every breath we take, we feel suffocation.
Make a change; let your voice be heard.
Hold up a Blue Ribbon;let's fix this situation!
Travel green and cut pollution,
Keep water pure and vegetation protected.
Live a simplelife and avoid extravagance.
Let nothing be wasted.
Classify and recycle garbage.
Stop using plastic bags and boxes.
Hold up a Blue Ribbon; show your attitude.
Let our future have some chances.
Hold up a Blue Ribbon; show your attitude,
For our sweet children,
For the grass, fish and birds,
For the green fields, for the blue ocean!
Hold up a Blue Ribbon, I urge you,
In bright sunshine, or in polluted air.
Hold up a Blue Ribbon, and take a picture,
To let the world know you care!
Hold up a Blue Ribbon and tell your stories.
Spread the best practice for a better environment.
Hold up a Blue Ribbon, my friends!
For the environment, do all that we can do!
