After telling its personalities to avoid politics when discussing the Daryl Morey drama and using a Beijing-approved map during a Sportscenter segment, ESPN continues to tread carefully when it comes to China.Zach Lowe, one of the company’s most popular basketball reporters, was barred from having an expert from the Council on Foreign Relations on his podcast to talk about the ongoing NBA-China situation, according to a report from the Washington Post. It’s worth noting that Lowe did end up discussing the issue on his podcast, only with former NBA coach Jeff Van Gunday and fellow reporter Adrian Wojnarowski instead of a China expert who could have presumably talked in more depth about the subject.Meanwhile, Wojnarowski, ESPN’s most well-sourced reporter and biggest NBA news breaker, is a character himself in this whole drama. In the few hours that Morey’s infamous tweet of support for the Hong Kong protests was up, Woj liked it, resulting in his account being stormed by Chinese bots and his own bi-weekly TV show in China, broadcast through Tencent, being canceled.
