根據英國《衛報》（The Guardian）消息，12月18日，英國詩人、作家和翻譯家大衛·康斯坦丁（David Constantine）榮獲2020年女王詩歌金獎（Queen’s gold medal for poetry）。

女王詩歌金獎設立於1933年，由英喬治五世（King George V）國王採納當時的英國「桂冠詩人」約翰·麥斯菲爾（John Edward Masefield）的建議設立。英國詩人維斯坦·休·奧登（W.H.Auden）、菲利普·拉金（Philip Larkin）和泰德·休斯（Ted Hughes）、分別為1937年、1965年和1974年獲獎者。康斯坦丁是第51位獲獎者，於1980年出版了他第一部作品集《光芒投射陰影》（暫譯，A Brightness to Cast Shadows）。今年10月，其第十一部作品《歸屬》（暫譯，Belongings）出版。
2018年女王詩歌金獎的獲得者、現任」桂冠詩人」（Poet Laureate）西蒙·阿米蒂奇（Simon Armitage）是今年該獎評選項委員會的負責人。他表示：
「大衛·康斯坦丁是一位『人道』詩人，這個詞經常和他的作品聯繫在一起，似乎在提示且詳述了以他為代表的、我們之中最好的世界之道。」
康斯坦丁表示，當他得知自己獲獎時是「完全不知所措」的，「過去幾天我一直在想著許多人，生者抑或是離開的人，他們陪伴了我的詩歌創作生涯。這使我更加感謝這個慷慨的獎項」。康斯坦丁說：「從16歲開始，我寫的詩幾乎完全取決於人本身——我身邊想寫的人，包括鼓勵我的人、我愛的或者愛我的人。現在，這一點變得非常、非常清楚：那些人正是我應該成為什麼樣的人的試金石。」
對於被描述為「人道」，康斯坦丁表示非常感動，「人們把詩當作令人反感的東西，而不是他們所愛之物。但是詩這東西本身就是人性，它就是我們以及我們與周圍世界的關係——這種關係正不斷遭到嚴重破壞。」
他還表示，「目前有太多事情正在變糟，非常令人唏噓地變糟了。我認為詩不能將這變好，但恰當的人道主義政策或許可以。但是詩一直在說我們可能失去了什麼，我們正在失去什麼以及對之我們可能做些什麼。這是對處於威脅之中的生命的慶祝，而沒有生命的東西是不值得的。」
1980年，小型詩歌出版社「血斧」出版（暫譯，Bloodaxe）康斯坦丁的詩集。據當時的編輯尼爾·阿斯特利（Neil Astley）回憶，「一讀到康斯坦丁的第一份手稿便意識到這是一位和任何人都不同的詩人，康斯坦丁已經充分形成了自己獨特的筆調，他依然沉浸在英國和歐洲的抒情敘事傳統中——更重要的是，他有寬厚的精神和對世界深刻的人道和同情視角。」
