World Cup in My View
THE FIRST TIME I watched a FIFA World Cup on TV was eight years ago. I was utterly (完全地) absorbed in this spectacular sports gala. Now as a senior high school student, I have a deeper and broader understanding of football. From my perspective, the 2018 FIFA World Cup perfectly presented football’s charm to everyone, which left a deep impression on me and further boosted my passion for football.
If you ask me what the most delightful performance was in the World Cup this summer, I will vote for the tacit (默契的) cooperation of Belgium, particularly three key men — Kevin De Bruyne, Eden Hazard, and Romelu Lukaku. With Belgium’s top-ranking youth training system, numerous gifted young players sprang up and grew into core forces of top clubs in Europe. These promising stars are ready to make history in years to come.
Many fans felt pity for Messi and Ronaldo when seeing these two of the greatest football players of all time walking back to the changing room after being eliminated. So far, they』ve won almost all the glories except a FIFA World Cup trophy (獎盃) for their national teams. However, this will never cover up their contributions to the history of football and I』ll always show my highest respect to them.
While we were focusing on those top teams, we should always remember: the World Cup embraces every country, regardless of its size, population or race. For instance, the Panamanians (巴拿馬人), who came from a small country famous for its canal, also showed their sportsmanship on the field. When Panama scored their first World Cup goal against England, all the Panamanians celebrated wildly, cheering, jumping and waving their national flag, despite the fact that their opponents had scored six goals. Some of them even wept out of joy. Surrounded by his teammates, the 37-year-old scorer was too excited to utter a word. Their little dream touched me a lot, which was worth respecting. I sincerely hope that one day I can celebrate like that for our Chinese football team.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup has finally come to an end, but football never stops running. I』ll keep my enthusiasm for football and enjoy the pleasure and grief it brings to me.
