The English drama show of Senior One was successfully held on December 7th, 2020, as part of the 8th Foreign Language and Culture Festival. After the first round of competition, eight classes entered the final, and they presented a fantastic audio-visual feast with high quality for all the teachers and students present.
The Drama competition has long been a significant tradition in the Festival. The theme of this year is 「Languages Shine, Dreams Fly」. During the show, students not only show their excellent language skills, but also impress the audience with their appealing plots, unique characters and beautiful settings, which is a perfect practice of our theme. By taking part in those wonderful show, students learn to use languages to overcome the communication barriers, bridge the culture differences and expands their international perspectives, which will definitely enlighten their future dreams.
歷時半學期的準備，成都外國語學校第八屆外語文化節之高一英語話劇大賽於2020年12月7日晚在科技館圓滿落下帷幕。經過初賽的激烈角逐，共有8個劇目進入決賽。當晚，來自於8個不同班級的孩子們，為在場師生們呈現了一場高質量的一場聽覺和視覺的盛宴。
英語話劇大賽一直是外語節的重頭戲, 本次外語節主題為「外語點燃夢想。在本次大賽中，學生們不僅展現了優秀的語言技能，還用引人入勝的情節，特別的人物角色，精緻的布景給觀眾們留下了深刻印象，正是完美實踐了此次主題。通過參加活動，學生們學會語言克服交流障礙，架起文化的橋梁，同時拓展自己的國際視野，最終也必將點亮他們未知的夢想。
高中外語教學服務中心副主任張嶸老師觀看了當晚的演出。當晚列席的評委有：來自高二年級的評委陳黎老師，陳濤老師，伍欣老師, 吳丹老師，李亮亮老師，任菁薷老師。
以下是參賽班級帶來的精彩絕倫的話劇：
1. Class 8 Little Woman
Jo and her sisters are preparing the Christmas night at home, having a chit-chat. Their best friend, Laure is also preparing something. He seems nervous of knocking on the girls』 door. What will happen on the eve of Christmas?
2. Class 3 The Wizard of OZ
This story is about Dorothy, a little girl from Kansas prairies, with her dog Toto. She was accidentally taken to a mysterious land. She decided to go to the city of Emeralds to ask Oz the wizard to help her to go back. Along her journey, Dorothy saved Scarecrow who wanted a brain, liberated Tin Man who was looking forward to a heart, and comfortable Lion who needed loads of courage. They became a united group and finally succeeded in reaching the city of Emeralds. They made a deal with Oz to kill the witch of the west so that Oz would carry out their wishes. They would go on a new adventure!
3. Class 7 Alexander Hamilton
The Broadway musical Hamilton is the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton who grew from a bastard orphan to Washington’s right-hand man, rebel to war hero, to The Treasure head who made an distrusting world believe in American economy. The show created a revolutionary moment in theater and had a profound impact on culture, politics and education.
4. Class 2 Necklace
A story happened in the 18th century in central London. The noble frequently held dances in which vain people made efforts to show up to pretend as if they had had gentility. Jenifer, who used to be hardworking, gradually had become pretentious since she first attended a dance with her husband. Tonight, she is preparing for another dance. However, she can’t find a piece of clothing that satisfies her, she decides to get something good to make her brilliant…
5. Class 5 Witness for the Prosecution
The scene is set in the trial of the murder of Ms. Emily Jane French. The prisoner Leonard Stephenole is suspected of killing Ms. French, and it is the case for you to decide whether the prisoner is guilty or not.
6. Class 4 $1000000
In the 1980s, a friendly man had a dream. In his dream, he became a millionaire and entered the upper society. He was wearing luxury suit, having his own Titanic and chasing the girl he fancied. Then he unexpectedly realized the ship was sinking. With his girl and money disappearing, his dream ended up like a broken bubble. He woke up without his million dollars and insisted that someone had stolen it. He dramatically turned crazy.
7. Class 13 Hamlet
Representing the highest achievement of the western literature during Renaissance era, Hamlet assuredly left an incredible impression in people’s mind. Hamlet, a well-educated Danish prince was informed that his father had passed away due to an acute disease. Uncle Claudius took his father’s position, which led to a series of strange things…
8. Class 12 Alice in Wonderland
Once upon a time, there is a crazy boy called Hatter with a big hat and painted face. His family were unfortunately killed by an enormous dragon. Right now the white queen is setting a meeting to find out the way to save Hatter. The humors twins, lovely cat rabbit and the wonder girl Alice also join in. Let’s see what will they do in the wonderland.
