On January 11th at 11pm, Hard Disk factory Seagate announced they will close their Suzhou factory.
Seagate announced it had to close down their Suzhou factory ahead of schedule in order to improve operation efficiency. Seagate explained that it closed down the Suzhou factory in order to reduce its production capacity so that it can meet the market demand of the present and future. Seagate spokeswoman Kelly Zhang said this is part of Seagate’s global reconstruction announced last July. They will lay off about 6,500 employees by the end of 2017, which is about 14% of the global headcount. Seagate hard disk products are mainly used in PCs; equipment manufacturers, including PC manufacturers, have long suffered from weak market demand and has inevitably affected Seagate’s business on a large scale. According to the announcement, all employees will be compensated by the China Labor Law. RIP hard disks.
May the clunky hard disk’s hardware and its accompanying compact disks』 under bellied-rainbows shine on for all eternity.
