Video exploring 5G speed goes viral

How fast will 5G wireless be? How will 5G technology change our lives? A student surnamed He from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications gauged the speed himself and answered questions in a short video which went viral over the weekend.

The video, first uploaded at He's personal account for the giant video entertainment platform Bilibili, was viewed over 6.8 million times with around 867 thousand likes. Viewers and comments continue to flood in on other social media platforms, and the video brought He millions of followers.

In the 7-minute video, He showed the amazing fast speed of 5G network on his new phone: downloading songs or online gaming applications in a second, watching any part of a Ultra HD movie without waiting and an average downloading rate of around 700 Mbps.

However, netizens feel the highlight of the video lies in its logic and innovative thinking. To exemplify how 5G technology would change society in ways that challenge our imaginations, the blogger reviewed how people were predicting the future in 2012 to 2013 when 4G was about to debut. It turns out most articles failed to foresee the huge Internet blueprint we live in today. People then had no clue how technology would revolutionize our futures.

"Today, we should have confidence in 5G, a fertile piece of land that may nurture amazing flowers we have never seen before," He said in the video. "I hope in five years when I look back, the most boring thing we would think of when talking about 5G is the speed."

Web users welcomed the video with admiration. On China's Sina Weibo, He's video was commented on by Brian, vice CEO of Chinese smartphone vendor OPPO, asking him if He would like to find a job in his company.

Born in 1999, He is a sophomore majoring in communication engineering and management.
