Balangay Expedition team arrives in XM

The Balangay Expedition team completed on May 3 a 1,000-nautical-mile voyage from the Philippines to China using three balangays, replicas of pre-Spanish Filipino boats. The five-day expedition included three sail-powered vessels measured 18 meters in length and three meters in width operated by 31 crewmembers. Julius Caesar Aragon Flores, the consul general for the Philippines consulate general in Xiamen, attended a ceremony honoring the expedition's arrival. Mr. Flores expressed his hope that the event will contribute to deepening cooperation and communication between China and the Philippines.
The Balangay Expedition boats will stay at the cruise center for ten days, during which period the 31 crewmembers will attend a Nanyin (ancient South Fujian music) performance and tour Gulangyu before visiting Jinjiang, Dezhou and Beijing. The boats are slated to depart Xiamen on May 12.
XiamenAir plans to open Fuzhou-Paris route

According to XiamenAir authorities, the company is applying to launch a new flight route between Fuzhou and Paris at the end of the year. The potential route will become the 11th trancontinental route run by XiamenAir, with five flights every week.

Online business credit investigation company Qixin.com recently announced the results of a survey of local pet-related companies. The results indicate that Xiamen is currently home to more than 800 pet-related businesses such as stores and veterinarians, with 152 new firms registered in the past year.
XM-HK bullet trains to commence in September

Transit officials recently announced that high-speed rail service will begin in September between Xiamen and Hong Kong. The four-hour journey will utilize the Hong Kong section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed rail line. The initiative will allow passengers to transit directly from Xiamen to Hong Kong by clearing Chinese Mainland Customs from inside Hong Kong at the West Kowloon station.
The new program will initially include more than 100 trains per day. The West Kowloon station will be home to a new 「one place, two inspections」 Customs process that combines Customs clearance for both the Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong into a single process and location.
New exit-entry certificate kiosks and processes debut in XM

Local Customs officials recently announced the completion of a series of upgrades to both physical resources and document-processing systems for the issuance of exit-entry certificates. Document requests can now be processed in 20 minutes and include a home delivery option via EMS. One-step reception is now available at administrative service centers in Haicang, Jimei, Tong'an, and the Xiang'an Public Security Bureau branches as well as at Wuyuan Bay Certificate Center. Self-service kiosks for entry and exit certificates shorten the processing time from six working days to three minutes. New kiosks will also be added to the city's airport and ferry terminal.
Paving begins for subway Line Two pathway

Municipal workers laid the first track for the subway system's Line Two at the future site of the Lingdou subway station. Work to pave the route's path and lay track is slated to run through June 2019. The entirety of the 83-kilometer path for Line Two is underground. Construction works include eight sites from which construction crews operate, including the future subway stations at Changgeng Hospital, Haicang's central business district, Lingdou, Maluanbei, Mount Guanyin, Mount Tianzhu, Wetland Park and Yuxiudong Road. Primary construction is complete at 12 of the line's 32 planned stations.
XM hosts esports competition finals

The three-day Fujian College Electronic Sports Tournament wrapped up on May 1 at the Xiamen International Convention and Exhibition Center. Jointly organized by the Municipal Sports Bureau and the C&D Group, the event featured esports teams from 20 universities competing in front of a live audience. Event sponsors said that Xiamen will be a long-term host of the National E-Sports Tournament (NEST), which has been held in Xiamen for the past three years. The annual competition begins in November.
Approximately 2,000 competitors from 20 provinces participated in qualifying rounds in eight cities: Fuzhou, Nanping, Ningde, Putian, Quanzhou, Sanming, Xiamen and Zhangzhou.
Work continues on Binhai West Avenue

Construction continues on the road surface of Binhai West Avenue, which will connect Lehai Road and the New 324 National Highway. The avenue is the primary road connection between the island of Xiamen and Tong'an. The renovation project also includes new roadside drainage and greenery as well as pedestrian overpasses and underpasses. Local officials described the project as a model program in Fujian for the creation and management of roadways that are efficient, environmentally friendly and aesthetically pleasing.
