英語聽力和口語測試是研究生複試中的重要組成部分。從2005年起研究生初試中英語取消聽力，英語聽力和口語的考查放到複試中進行，英語聽力和口語的分值要記入總分，考生對英語口語和聽力一定要認真準備。英語聽力和口語測試是研考複試的重要組成部分。考生應該利用從初試結束到複試開始這一段時間，強化英語口語和聽力的訓練。
聽力準備要提前預熱
英語聽力部分，大多數學校都以現有的成型考試為參考。考生在準備聽力複試的過程中，對於現有的成熟英語考試的聽力部分一定要重視，比如六級聽力、託福聽力和雅思聽力應該是複習的重點。在複習時可以有針對性地做一些六級或託福聽力或雅思聽力的試題。平時大量聽力練習的空隙，覺得做題枯燥了，收聽一下英語新聞，看看發音清晰的英文影片，再放鬆欣賞的同時又培養了語感，真可謂一舉兩得。
在參加複試前這段有限的時間裡要儘快熟悉與考試相近的內容。考生大都考過六級聽力，並不陌生，而託福聽力又是四六級聽力命題的基礎，熟悉了四六級和託福聽力；英語複試問題就不算太大。總之，在這段寶貴的時間裡，一定要堅持做好聽力的磨練。
口語測試準備好話題
複試中對英語口語能力的考核，從三個方面進行考查和評價：一是語言的準確性，即語法和用詞的準確性、語法結構的複雜性、詞彙的豐富程度、發音的準確性；二是話語的長短和連貫性，即內容的連貫性、尋找合適的詞語而造成的停頓頻率及長短、表達思想的語言長短等；三是語言的靈活性和適合性，即語言表達是否靈活、自然，話語是否得體，語言能否與語境、動機和目的相適應。針對這些考核內容，考生要有的放矢，有目的地訓練自己的聽力和口語。
對口語的考查，各個學校各不相同。有的學校制定了非常詳細的標準和流程，甚至規定了每個老師發問的方式和時間；有的只是面試老師的自由發揮，成績也基本上由面試老師主觀判定。不管面試是否嚴格控制，考生對下面幾個問題一定要認真準備：一是自我介紹，如自己來自什麼地方，畢業學校，所學專業，業餘喜好，家庭基本情況等信息。二是做好用英語講解自己專業的準備。口語測試時老師有可能要求你就本專業展開話題，考查你用英語講解陌生概念的能力。因此考生對此要有所準備，先用筆頭組織這些問題的要點，然後再以這些詞組織語言。在閱讀專業文獻時，也要多積累一些專業方面的英語詞彙。當然在面試使這一類的提問不會太難。
