短語動詞是由動詞與介詞名詞或副詞結合在一起而組成的有些短語動詞相當於及物動詞，有些則相當於不及物，動詞主要有以下6種：動詞+副詞，動詞+介詞，動詞+副詞+介詞，動詞+名詞+介詞，be+形容詞+介詞，動詞+名詞。
一、動詞+副詞
Break out爆發，break in打斷，find out查出 give in屈服，give up放棄，go about4處走動。go ahead開始幹，go back回去，go on繼續， look around環顧，look over瀏覽
Put on穿上，pick out選出來，put aside放下， turn on打開，ring up打電話，put down放下
二、動詞+介詞
Ask for請求，arrive at到達，arrive in到達， break into破門而入，begin with以……開始， care for喜歡，depend on依靠，get off下車， look after照顧，look at 看， listen to 聽
Laugh at嘲笑，go over複習，die from死於， go through從……穿過，come across偶然碰到，care about關心。
三、動詞+副詞+介詞
Break away from脫離，catch up with趕上， do away with廢除，go on with繼續，go in for從事，come up with想出，get along with進展 look forward to盼望，keep out of使不進入
四、動詞+名詞+介詞
Make use of 利用，pay attention to注意， take notice of注意到，take the place of代替，take part in參加，take pride in以為自豪
Catch sight of突然發現，pay attention to注意 make a contribution to為……做貢獻
五、be+形容詞+介詞
Be fond of喜歡，be afraid of害怕，be famous for以……出名，be sure about對……有把握，be aware of意識到，be good for對……有好處，be good at擅長，be ready for為……做好準備，be attractive in在……方面積極，be proud of以……為自豪。
六、動詞+名詞
