[中關村在線鍵鼠頻道原創]一年一度的女子魔獸類項目比賽Iron.Lady已經圓滿結束。在這次比賽中中國與新加坡的選手們都獲得了不同項目的冠軍。而且在整場比賽中我們看到了中國與新加坡選手中間的交流與進步。這次比賽,SteelSeries的CEO、品牌創始人、亞洲區負責人都來到了比賽現場,中關村在線鍵鼠頻道也第一時間對其做了專訪。

相信很多網友對於SteelSeries的創始人Jacob先生有著很多的問題,也最想知道他會給出什麼樣的答案,首先我們就先來看看這位年輕的創始人,對於自己品牌的觀點。

中關村在線:很多中國SteelSeries的FANS喜歡稱其為鋼廠,您為什麼會使用這樣一個硬朗的名字?
ZOL:Lots of Chinese SteelSeries Fans call SteelSeries Aps 「Steel Factory」, Why did you use such a tough name?
Jacob:The name was created from one of our early mousepad products which was made of steel. The goal of this product was to be of the highest quality, durable, and provide a new level of tracking performance for the mice used by esport professionals at the time. As we grew as a company we realized that these attributes (quality, durability, performance) were essential in all of the products we were making. Thus we decided to name the company SteelSeries, that is a series of products that bring all of the strength and performance people associate with the word Steel.
雅各布:創建這個名字要說到我們早期的滑鼠墊產品,這是「鋼」。該產品的目標是可以達到的最高質量,耐用,並提供優秀的跟蹤能力,專業人員使用的電子競技滑鼠時能有更高的表現水平。當我們成長為一家公司,我們認識到,這些屬性(質量,耐用性,性能人)的產品,我們所做的一切都是必要的。因此,我們決定將公司名稱SteelSeries的,這是一個系列產品帶來的實力和表現都與鋼字相關聯的。

ZOL:As we know, From first product design, SteelSeries has worked closely with the professional gaming community to develop products,Will this mode continue ? And could you talk about the advantages of this mode?
Jacob:Yes this is and will continue to be an essential part of our company philosophy. We believe the competitive gamer is the most demanding customer. Who wears a headset longer than a pro-gramer? Who uses a mouse designed for precision and speed longer in a day than a gamer? Who needs the best possible tracking from the surface they put that mouse on? By listening to the competitive gaming community and trying to understand what needs are not met by current products on the market is essential to making the best gaming products in the world. A general population of people are not going to be able to give you this type insight.
This process may take a little longer and many of our proto-types may have visited more countries than most people. They are tested by gamers around the world and sent back and forth to our development teams placed around the globe, but we believe the end result is worth the waiting for and a statement as to why our products continue to win the top awards and are consider very famous around the world.
雅各布:是的,這是並將繼續成為我們公司理念的重要組成部分。我們相信,電子競技玩家是最苛刻的客戶。誰戴耳機的時間超過一個專業選手?誰使用精密設計的滑鼠在一天中只玩一個遊戲?誰需要為他們提供跟蹤能力最好的表面?通過聽取專業人員的意見,並試圖了解需求而不是由市場上現有產品滿足,這樣的產品是世界上最好的遊戲產品。普通玩家多半不會給你這類見解。

中關村在線:您最喜歡哪類遊戲(FPS 、RTS、ACT……)?您最喜歡的遊戲是什麼?
ZOL:Which kind of games is you Favorite(FPS、RTS、ACT……)? What is your favorite game?
Jacob: for me it is RTS and it is hard to say but probably the Age of Empire series.
Bruce: I also like RTS games a lot, but probably my favorite are FPS type games. Favorite game is hard to pick there have been so many great games over my life time, right now I have been playing the Call of Duty series a lot.
雅各布:對我來說是RTS,這是很難說,但可能是帝國時代系列。

ZOL:Which product do you think is the best SteelSeries product?
Jacob:We are of course proud of all of our products. However as a company we are improving with each new generation of products. At home we both have the Siberia v2 Full Size Headset, 7G keyboard, the Xai, and the 9HD mousepad as our preferred products. In each case these products are setting new standards with players and the reviewers for what a product must have to be considered the best.

ZOL:As we know, so far the most Successful Products line of SteelSeries is Mousepad, Why did you choose this product line?
Jacob: I saw a market that had a lot of need for improvement. Trackball mice at the time would collect a lot of dust and dirt and needed constant cleaning. At the same time the surfaces available also had similar problems and had no thought about what a gamer needed from a surface. With the Icemat mouse pad we developed a pad that was easy to clean, durable for transportation, and provided the right level of resistance demanded by pro-gamers at the time.
雅各布:我看到產品亟待改善這麼一個市場。以前軌跡球滑鼠沾染灰塵總需要清洗。同時,遊戲玩家用的也存在一樣的麻煩。我們做了這個易清潔的Icemat滑鼠墊,而且耐用,給專業玩家們提供適當的操控摩擦力。
中關村在線:能和中國的SteelSeries Fans們說說您成立這個品牌的初衷麼?
ZOL:Could you tell our Chinese SteelSeries fans what is the original intention of setting up the brand?
Jacob:To make best esport gaming gear in the world. We started out with mousepads and as the company grew we saw other spaces within the esport gaming that our gamers were asking us to improve. This is why we then moved into headsets where there were many problems with the quality, especially in the audio tuning and durability when traveling with them, of the products being offered as 「gaming headsets」. This approach has allowed the company to grow and make the very best gaming equipment in all categories of esport equipment.
雅各布:做全世界最好的電子競技設備,我們是做滑鼠墊開始,隨著公司的成長以及遊戲玩家對我們的要求增進,我們看到這領域的其它發展空間。這就是為什麼我們後來又弄耳機,尤其是在音頻調整和耐用性上偏向遊戲耳機。這使公司創造了遊戲領域各類設備。在電子競技中,我們產品都是最好的。

中關村在線:中國有著世界上潛力最大的市場,您有沒有考慮設計一下針對中國市場的產品,畢竟中國的人均收入並不高。
ZOL:China has the largest market potential of the world, Have you ever thought about designing products for the Chinese market?After all, China's per capita income is not high.
Bruce:We are honored to be part of Chinese esport community. We listen to gamers from all over the world, this includes Chinese gamers. I find the Chinese gamer to be especially knowledgeable about the technical specifications of a product and they are very specific on ways to improve our products. This input is important to us and is being used as we develop the next generation of products. We believe that China is one of the top markets in the world and are committed to meeting the needs of gamers in this market.
布魯斯:我們很榮幸在中國電競業佔有一席之地,我們聽取全球玩家的意見,這其中包括中國玩家。我發現中國玩家在產品的科技參數上知識面很廣。這很能幫我們在下一代產品製造上取得進步。我們相信中國是我們產品最大的市場之一,我們也致力於滿足這個市場的需求。
中關村在線:2009年,Razer在中國做得有聲有色,SteelSeries在2010年會不會有什麼大動作?
ZOL:In 2009, Razer did very well in China, Will Steelseries have any big moves in China in 2010?
Bruce:2009 was a great year for SteelSeries in China. We have focused on the competitive gaming community from the start of the company. While others may choose a different approach, we believe that investing in the Chinese esport community and focusing on the Chinese gamer will help us to continue to make the best products in the world. With events like the SteelSeries Iron Lady competition, which is now in its third year, or sponsorship of great teams like Tyloo, we will continue to go deeper into the competitive gamer space in China. If we can attract interest from other communities in China, like we have accomplished in the U.S. with our inclusion of the Siberia v2 Full Size headset into the Grammy gift bag, then of course we will use opportunities like this to help grow the gaming community in China.
布魯斯:2009年是SteelSeries在中國很不錯的一年,我們關注到遊戲圈。別人發狠的同時,我們則相信在中國電競上做投入,並且關注中國玩家,這會有利於我們在全世界做最好的產品。像SteelSeries鐵娘子大賽,這已經是第三年了。像讚助Tyloo這麼強的隊,我們繼續深挖中國的電競選手這個空間。我們要是在中國能吸引來其他方面……比如我們在美國已經有了Siberia二代全尺寸耳機放進禮品包。在中國,我們當然希望有機會促遊戲業的發展。
中關村在線:面對星際爭霸2的頻頻跳票,SteelSeries在產品生產和選手籤約方面會不會有什麼影響,畢竟如果能籤到一個優秀的選手,對於品牌的幫助還是很大的。
ZOL:As we know, the release of StarcraftⅡ has been delayed several times, does it affects Steelseries on the aspects of manufacturing products and contracting with players? After all, it is very helpful to the brand if you can contract with a good player.
Bruce:Like everyone, we eagerly await the introduction of Starcraft II. However, our company is built around the competitive gaming community and there are many great games being played today in this community. Our mission is to make the best gaming products across all types of games and this is what we continue to focus on.
布魯斯:人人都盼著星際爭霸II引進,而我們也在競技遊戲領域和許多當今正被火熱玩著的好遊戲上有所建樹。我們的使命是給所有類型遊戲做最好的設備——這是我們堅持看重的一點。
中關村在線:從中國市場來看,SteelSeries曾經收購的戰霸產品普遍賣得不好,您能談談這次收購麼?
ZOL:From the view of Chinese market, the Zboard products that Steelseries bought generally haven’t sold well, could you say something about this purchase case?
Bruce:We have been pleased with the purchase and integration of Ideazon, the original creator of the Zboard. We purchased Ideazon for many reasons and we see the opportunity to take a new approach with their former products in China. As we look forward please watch for more news. We have been reviewing all of the products and merging the best ideas to develop the next generation of products from SteelSeries.
布魯斯:我們很高興看待這次收購,我們買Ideazon(戰霸的原創者)有許多原因。我們看到一個在中國由他們以前產品帶來新發展的機會。我們正在考評全線產品,來合併最好的點,以做出下一代產品。

ZOL:Now Steelseries has replaced the general agent in China. In the last year, Steelseries executed self-management, so what did you find insufficient? Will there be any new changes in 2010?
Bruce:2009 was a year of growth in China for SteelSeries. Our model has allowed us to be closer to our customers which is always a good thing. As we go into 2010 we will continue to meet with partners we believe will help us server the China market in the best way.
布魯斯:對SteelSeries來說,2009年是我們在中國有增長的一年。我們的模式允許我們更貼近用戶,這始終都是件好事。2010年我們將繼續會面合作夥伴們,我們相信這是幫助我們做好中國市場的最佳途徑。
中關村在線:2009年Razer的產品線一下子被豐富了很多,曝光頻率很高,面對如此情況SteelSeries會不會也加快新品的開發,畢竟新鮮感是保證品牌熱度的好辦法。
ZOL:In the last year, Razer added abundant products and had a high frequency of exposure. Faced this situation, will Steelseries accelerate the development of products; after all, releasing fresh products is a good idea to guarantee the popularity of a brand.
Bruce:We have and are launching a number of new products. Most recently we have launched the Xai mouse, the Kinzu mouse, the 9HD and 4HD gaming surface, the Siberia full-size v2 headset, and the NP+ gaming surface. We are very proud of these additions, especially the Xai and Siberia v2 which are quickly becoming the top rated products in their categories by reviewers around the world. That said, we are not stopping and you should expect to see several more announcements in the coming months.
We do not believing in rushing products to market and we let the gaming community (gamers and reviewers) decide which products are great. Thus we will continue to focus on working with this community to make the best products.
