職場中聽到out to lunch是喊你吃午飯？其實跟吃一點關係都沒有！
out to lunch的意思是：瘋狂的；神志不清的；過時的；懶散的理解起來很簡單，中文中有句諷刺人的話叫做，「你腦子忘在家裡了」，形容那些注意力沒在這裡的人們。這句英文也是，也是說，「你出去吃飯了吧，腦子都沒在這裡」。You must have been out to lunch when you wrote that weird report.He must have been out to lunch when he was in the class , because he failed the exam.I could feel him zoning out on me as I was talking to him about work.Mumu was not all there when I asked her about her vacation.Elsie was off-guard when she was in the meeting.看到「do lunch」，你可能就會誤以為是"做午飯"，所以當別人問你：let's do lunch，你可能更加會認為是要一起準備食材，準備午飯，但其實是問你：有沒有空一起吃午飯。
do除了助動詞"做"的意思，還有很多日常口語的意思，而do lunch就是日常英語口語，表示「共進午餐」。

吃飯英語怎麼說？
一看到「吃」，大家自然而然想到的英語對等詞就是「eat」。
但是，這個「吃」的意義決不是一個「eat」就能完全表達的。

to feed sth to sb 把某物餵給某人
to feed sb/sth on sth 用…餵…

Feeding a hungry family can be expensive.
養活飢腸轆轆的一家人開支可能會很大。
4.不刻意翻譯「吃」
《紅樓夢》中有這樣幾句話：
你們坐著吃吧，我可去了。
Sit down and go on with your meal, I’m leaving you.
你嘗嘗罷，好吃得很呢！你林妹妹弱，吃了不消化；不然，他也愛吃。
Go and taste some. It's really delicious. Cousin Dai yu's so delicate, it would give her indigestion. If it were not for that, she』d like some too.
這兩個句子說到好幾個「吃」，但翻譯時，並沒有刻意翻譯出來，所以我們平時在翻譯我們漢語中的「吃」時，要根據不同的情況用合適的詞來表達。
