Hello, everybody. Those of you who don't know who I am, I'm Elliott from ETJ English. I teach British English and pronunciation, southern British English, if you must.
大家好。還不認識我的同學們,我是來自 ETJ 英語頻道的埃利奧特。我教英式英語和發音,是英國南部的英語。
The first thing I want to tell you before we kind of start the lesson today is can you please watch this video until the end? Because at the end of the video, I have a special announcement to make regarding some great news that I had this week about this channel, okay.
在我們今天開始上課之前,我跟你們說的第一件事是你們能把這段視頻看到最後嗎?因為在視頻的最後,我有一個特別的聲明,關於我本周關於這個頻道的一些好消息。
So, the information will be at the end of this video, but the lesson today I want to talk about two different ways that you can say the word "really".?Now firstly, let's talk about the word "really".
所以,這個消息將會在這個視頻的最後揭曉,但是今天的課程是教大家說「really」的兩種不同的方式。首先,我們來談談關於這個詞,「really」。
Pronunciation: really, really, really. If we say it fast, two syllables: really, really.
發音:really,really,really。如果我們說快一些,兩個音節:really,really。
Now, there are actually two different ways of pronouncing this word to show two different reactions. So, this word is really commonly used when people are talking and we're listening and we're reacting to what they're saying.
這個詞實際上有兩種不同的發音方式來表示兩種不同的反應。人們在對話的時候經常會用到這個詞,當我們在聽並作出反應的時候會用到。
So, someone's talking to me and maybe my reaction would be: Oh, really? Really? But somebody could be talking about something else and my reaction could be: Really? Really?
例如,某人在跟我說話,也許我的反應是:噢,真的嗎?真的嗎?但可能有人在談論別的事情,我的反應可能是:真的嗎?真的嗎?
So, we've got "Really?" and "Really?" So, we'll start with the first one: Really? Really?
所以,我們有「真的嗎?」和「真的嗎?」我們從第一個開始:真的嗎?真的嗎?
Now, I want you to imagine that one of my students, one of my skype students, tells me in a lesson, "Elliott, I have some fantastic news. I'm getting married next month."
現在,我想讓你們想像一下,我的一個學生,我的一個 skype 學生,在一節課上告訴我:「埃利奧特,我有個好消息。我下個月要結婚了。」
My reaction: Oh, really? That's great! Really? Really? That's great!
我發反應:噢,真的嗎?太好了!真的嗎?真的嗎?太好了!
So, my tone is going up, so we're using that stress on the first syllable to go even higher: really, really, okay? Now, that's just my tone of voice.
我的音調是上升的,重音在第一個音節上,甚至還在走高:真的嗎?真的嗎?這只是我的音調。
Everybody has a different tone. I have a funny sounding voice, so: really?
每個人都有不同的音調。我的嗓音很滑稽:真的嗎?
That's how I would do it, and that would be my reaction to show that I am excited or happy. So, when we do this up down, okay, rise fall tone, "really", that shows that we are very excited or we have some kind of emotion, okay?
這是我的說話方式,也是我表示興奮或高興時的反應。當我們的語調先上升再下降,「真的嗎」,表明我們非常興奮或帶有情感。
So, it's an emotional tone that we use in English, okay? And we'll often use it on words like this to show a reaction.
這是我們英語中表現情緒的語調。而且我們經常用它來表示一種反應。
"Elliott, I'm getting married next month." My reaction: Oh, really? Really?
「埃利奧特,我下個月要結婚了。」我的反應:噢,真的嗎?真的嗎?
So, imagine my student has a really normal job, right, really normal job and he's, he's, uh you know, he works in a bank, for example. And then one day, he says to me, "Actually, you know what, Elliott, I don't think I want to work in this job anymore.
現象一下,我的一個學生有一份非常普通的工作,很普通,例如,他在銀行工作。然後某天,他對我說:「其實,埃利奧特,我不想做這份工作了。
I think I'm gonna become an astronaut." And then me thinking: An astronaut? Really? Really? Really?
我想我要做一個太空人。」然後我在想:太空人?真的嗎?真的嗎?真的嗎?
So, in this situation, I'm not doing: "Really?" I'm doing: "Really?" So, it's instead of being an up-and-down, this time, it's a down up: "Really?"
在這個情境中,我不是:「真的嗎?」,而是:「真的嗎?」我的音調不是從高到低,而是從低到高:真的嗎?
Now this time does, obviously because it's a different tone. It doesn't show excitement; it doesn't show emotion.
這非常明顯,因為它是一個不同的語調。它不是表示興奮,不是表示感情。
This tone actually shows that we're confused. We're not sure about what the student is talking about.
這個語調表明我們很疑惑。我們不確定這個學生在說什麼。
It's kind of weird; it's a weird, you know, it's a very strange situation where this student has a very normal job. He doesn't have any qualifications to become an astronaut.
有點奇怪,這是一個非常奇怪的情境,這個學生有一份非常普通的工作。他不具備任何成為太空人的資質。
And he's just randomly decided that he wants to become an astronaut. I would be a little bit confused, so I would say, "Really? Really?"
他只是隨意決定要成為一名太空人。我會有點困惑,所以我會說,「真的嗎?真的嗎?」
And that's to show that I'm confused. I'm a bit unsure and I don't really understand: "Really?"
這就表明我很困惑。我有些不確定,而且真的不明白:真的嗎?
So, we use "Really?" when we're showing happiness or emotion, and it can be made stronger if we want to make it stronger and it will be more of it: Really Really? Okay? But we can also show confusion or that we're unsure or we don't really know what they're talking about with a down-up: Really? Really?
當我們表示快樂或情感的時候,我們用「真的嗎?」,而且如果我們想的話,還可以使它更強調:真的嗎?真的嗎?但我們還可以用一個降調來表示我們的疑惑或不確定,或者說我們不明白對方在說什麼:真的嗎?真的嗎?
So, those are two interesting ways of showing that we're both happy and confused with the word "really". Some other reactions that we can use are phrases like "Are you joking?" or "Are you serious?" or even "You're having a laugh!", "You're having a laugh!", okay?
這就是我們用「真的嗎?」來表示高興和困惑的兩種有趣的方式。我們還可以用的其他反應有:你在開玩笑嗎?你是認真的嗎?你在開玩笑!你在開玩笑!
So, we do have other ways of kind of reacting to stuff but that's kind of the intonation rule for the word "really". So, that's the lesson for today.
我們還有其他的反應方式,但這就是單詞「真的嗎」的兩個語調技巧。這就是今天的課程。
