A sitting duck
sit是「坐」，A sitting duck是一隻「坐著」的鴨子嗎？
就算從字面理解，最起碼我們也要理解為」浮在水上的鴨子「吧。
這個短語很可能與過去人們狩獵活動有關，「坐」在水面上的鴨子容易成為獵人的獵物。
有些鴨子（像綠頭鴨）在水面附近尋找食物。這些鴨子在尋找食物時漂浮在水面上，或者說「坐」在水面上。它們沒有任何保護自己的措施，而且幾乎靜止不動。於是「坐」在水面上的鴨子很容易被擊中，成為獵人的獵物。
A sitting duck現在被人們用來指那些「易受攻擊者；易被擊中的目標」：
Out in the open, the soldiers were sitting ducks for enemy fire.
完全暴露無遺，士兵們成了敵人火力的活靶子。
The wealthy widow is a sitting duck for a confidence man.
那個富有的寡婦是騙子的誘騙目標。

a sitting target是a sitting duck的類似表達，但明顯沒有後者生動形象，反而用的人少：
They know they are a sitting target for the press.
