In common usage both assume and presume can mean 『suppose』 and are often interchangeable in this meaning.
在常見的用法中，assume和presume與suppose有相同的含義，意為假設/假定，表示這個含義是可以相互替換。
However, technically there is a subtle difference between the two words。
然而，嚴格來講，這兩個詞之間還有一些微小的差別。
1.presume is to 『suppose to be the case on the basis of probability』:
1.presume表示依據一定的可能性做出的假設：
Two of the journalists went missing and are presumed dead.
兩名記者失蹤，推測其已經死亡。
2.Assume on the other hand is to 『suppose to be the case without proof』:
2.Assume則表示作出的推測和假設是不基於任何依據的：
I just assumed it to be the case.
我只是假設它是這樣的。
另外這兩個詞都有「承擔責任」的含義，表示這個含義時，assume意為「承擔一種角色」：
I assumed the role of the aggressor in the conversation.
在這個對話中，我承擔起侵略者的角色。
Presume多表示態度有關：
He had presumed too great a level of familiarity.
他在親密程度上有過分的冒犯。
