這裡的 desinger 依然是名詞，不過意思不是「設計師」，而是「名牌的」，用於名詞前做定語。

The power of Mycenaean kings collapsed around 1200 BC. By 700 BC, Greece had been divided into 300 city-states, which were cities and the land around them. Some city-states were ruled by kings, some by tyrants (men who governed by force) and some by oligarchs (small groups of rich, powerful men).

Most city-states grew rich by buying and selling. The agora (market-place) was the centre of many cities. Goods on sale included farm produce such as grain, wine and olive oil, salt from the sea, pottery, woolen blankets, sheepskin cloaks, leather sandals and slaves.

Top craftsmen made fine goods for sale. Cities were home to many expert craftsmen. They ran small workshops next to their homes, or worked as slaves in factories owned by rich businessmen. Greek craftworkers were famous for producing fine pottery, stone-carvings, weapons, armor and jewelry.

Coins displayed city wealth and pride. They were invented in the Near East around 600 BC. Their use soon spread to Greece, and each city-state issued its own designs, stamped out of real silver. Cities were defended by strong stone walls. City-states were proud, independent and quarrelsome. They were often at war with their rivals. They were also in constant danger of attack from neighboring nations, especially Persia (now Iran) .
