  instead「代替」的意思，表達「是用一個新事物代替一個舊事物」。這是能夠使用instead關鍵條件。

 instead    

 instead的本質是副詞。

When he was young, his teacher said he was not the right person to play the piano. But he didn't give up. __________, he pushed himself very hard to learn the piano.

答案應該是instead。

只要表達「用一件事代替另一件事」時，就填instead。

He doesn't do his homework,he plays computer games instead.

instead 可放於句首或句末。

 instead of

     instead of " 代替" ，of是介詞，後接名詞，代詞，V-ing形式。

instead of 的短語常放於句中。

We went to Shanghai instead of  Hainan.

= We didn't go to  Hainan,instead we went to Shanghai. 

我們去上海而沒去海南。
