當字母r出現在單詞的元音字母組合中時，北美英語會出現獨特的捲舌音。

但在calm palm 中不變。
輔音區別：
/hw/的讀法：輔音連綴wh，英國人讀/w/，美國人讀/hw/。但在字母O前，都讀/h/。
