As a part of the UK Now Festival 2012, the Vanishing Horizon, a physical theatre of Idle Motion with charming creativity and endless imagination was brought to China by British Council in September. On the afternoon of 22 Sept, invited by Arrive-Hangzhou, a bilingual magazine in town, Vanishing Horizon was staged in Hangzhou Library.
"Vanishing Horizon" is about flight and movement, telling stories from the first airplane flight pioneers to a modern woman's discoveries as she takes to the skies. The horizon vanishes when the plane takes off. It also talks about "freedom and dreams", another important topic of human life.
Chen Xi, a girl from B&G Theatre Troupe in Zhejiang University of Media and Communications, was impressed by the 1.5-hour-performance. "I've never seen a play like that. It's amazing to see how creative they can do with the suitcases scattered on the stage."
So far Vanishing Horizon is the only British play staged in Hangzhou this year. Ma Ling, Sales & Marketing Manager of Arts & Culture, British Council told City Express that since 1997, every two years they would select a few creative plays from Edinburgh Fringe Festival and introduced them to China. This year they've selected 5 plays, but due to availability of theatre facilities and performance schedules, Vanishing Horizon would be the only one staged in Hangzhou.
