「eat one's shirt」有兩種意思，中間的one's可以替換成各種所屬格，比如：my; your; his; her等等。
eat one's shirt 收回前言，承認說錯話
英文釋義：To face the repercussion of being incorrect after one's claim, boast, or assertion is refuted; to eat one's words.
在主張、吹噓或斷言被駁斥後，面對不正確的後果；承認說錯話
The member of parliament will have to eat his shirt for his claim that no new taxes would be introduced this year.
這位國會議員不得不承認自己說錯了話，他聲稱今年不會徵收新稅。
You'll be eating your shirt if this new engine isn't as fast as you say it is.

eat one's shirt 虧本，蒙受損失
英文釋義：To take a loss on a wasted or unfruitful investment.
在浪費或沒有結果的投資上蒙受損失

最後，普特君再來和大家說一個同樣常見，但是相關的俚語表達卻可能讓人猜不到意思的單詞：spring。
大多數人知道「spring」是「春天」，但它作為名詞還有「彈簧，發條；泉」的意思。「spring」作為動詞有「跳，躍，蹦；突然出現；湧現」的意思。
a spring in your step 步伐輕快；（走路）輕鬆自信
There's been a definite spring in his step ever since he met Joanna.
自從他遇見喬安娜之後，走起路來步伐都輕快了。
spring to life 突然活躍（或忙碌）起來
After about eight o'clock the city springs to life.
大約8點鐘過後，整個城市突然熱鬧起來。
spring to mind 躍入腦海
Say the word "Australia" and a vision of beaches and blue seas immediately springs to mind.
