英語語法: 短語either…or…, fail to do的用法

20. either…or…要麼.要麼……

用法：either…or…在句中要遵循就近原則，謂語的單複數取決於or後面的主語。

 

例句1：Abundant information about cooking is available either online or on TV. (2015年12月四級)

網上或者電視上大量關於烹飪的信息。

 

結構分析：Abundant information about cooking是主語，is available是系表型謂語（is系動詞+表語available），either online oron TV是狀語。

 

21. fail to do無法做.，未能做……

用法：fail to後面接動詞原形，有時可與don’t或者didn’t互換。

 

例句1：They fail to give adequate help to the needy students.(2015年12月六級)

他們沒有給貧困的學生足夠的幫助。

 

結構分析：They是主語，fail是謂語，to give adequate help to the needy students是不定式詞組作狀語（to+動詞原形give+賓語adequate help+賓語補語to the needy students）。

用法：generally speaking是在句中用作插入語的現在分詞短語，和in general同義。
