一．Time (時間）

New Year's eve is the last night of the twelfth lunar month.

(除夕是每年農曆臘月（12月）的最後一個晚上。)

二．Meaning （意義）

New Year's eve，「Chu」, is the meaning of removal, 「xi」, refers to the night. New Year's eve is to bid farewell to the old and usher in the new.

(除夕： "除"，是去除的意思； "夕"，指夜晚。除夕就是辭舊迎新、一元復始、萬象更新的節日。)

三．Customs （習俗）

1. Ancestor worship（祭祖）

Because customs vary from place to place. There are different forms of ancestor worship. Some go to the wild to visit their ancestors' tombs; Some go to ancestral halls to worship their ancestors; However, most people place the ancestral tablets in order in the main hall at home. They display tribute. Then the worshipers kneel down in order of age.

2. New Year's Eve dinner（年夜飯）

Eating New Year's eve dinner is the most lively and happy time of each family in Spring Festival. In the eve， the table was set with rich New Year's dishes. Families get together, sit around the table, and have dinner together.

3. Pasting Spring Couplets （貼春聯）

Spring festival couplets are also called 「spring festival scrolls」, 「New Year scrolls」 or 「spring festival coup」.

4. Pasting New Year Prints （貼年畫）

New Year pictures, like Spring Festival couplets, originated from 「the god of doors」.

In the folk, people also like to paste a variety of paper-cut on the windows .
