THE EYE OF LUHU LAKE

Rafaela Agapito,Bachelor of Architecture and Urbanism, Federal Technology University of Parana. MA in Hybrid Art, Federal Technology University of Parana. Founder architect of Cora Atelier.

Concept:

A French New Wave film-maker is first of all an author who shows in its film their own eye on the world. The auteur theory, which was a foundation stone of the French cinematic movement known as the nouvelle vague, holds that the director, who oversees all audio andvisual elements of the motion picture, is more to be considered the 「author」 of the movie than is the writer of the screenplay. In other words, such fundamental visualelements as camera placement, blocking, lighting, and scene length, rather than plot line, convey the message of the film.

This public furniture takes inspiration in the concept of the subjective eye of auteur. It creates a personal world, where the structure extends to frame the outside, exploring the intimate point of view of the auteur and the resulting scenery captured. Although the structure is permanent, the scenes are never the same, dependingon the time, the weather and the 『actors』 the narrative changes in an instance.

The form of the project was created from the idea of framing something in the most personal and primitive way, like Patricia (Jean Seberg) rolling a poster to frameMichel (Jean-Paul Belmondo) in 「À bout de souffle」. To see through 「the eye」 you need to be inside the structure, so we curved the form in the direction of the play-ground, also providing a pocket space to create an organically shaped seating towards the direction of the kids』 area. The participant can sit, lie or lean on the structure while relaxing, chatting or just daydreaming. The inside of 「the eye」 not only provide a space to explore a journey, but also becomes a space for immersive filmprojections. The curved cave will also create special sound effects that participants who are staying inside can experience.

Nouvelle Vague - Second Prize

Water-Leisureful

Huang Siqi

Concept:

The topic was set as 「Wave」, which could refer to the LUXELAKES inside the site. And also, the dialogues between the people in the boats floating in the lake and the travelers on the board. So, the bench was developed with a curved surface. Moreover, the circle form of this design came from Chinese poems, which means the moon on the river. When rocking, the chair would shine attractively also like the moon.

Location: the entrance grass slope of LUXES』 Island; the area is around 144 square meters (about 12X12m).

Expectation: it has one of the best outlooks on LUXES』 Island, with a slope that is wide open and overlooking the lake and sailing boats. It is expected that, through the playful and interactive public seating design which is combined with illumination, "PLAY TIME" can be redefined—playgrounds are not only for children, but also for adults to have fun and relax.

Concept:

In urban life, people's social circles are individual circles with themselves as the centers, large or small. When these circles overlap with each other, people begin their communication at the intersections. From the hidden corner where the two are intimately nestled, to the cozy backyard in the family's house, and then to the gathering stage for onlookers to watch street performances, the public seating, as a small container of urban social life, miniaturizing the plots of our friends' circles. If we consider each individual as a point, and visualize his or her social circle, we will get a group of intersecting circles. Therefore, "Encircle" is an architectural expression of this invisible socialization.

Concept:

Unlike the usual seats that take rest as the first priority, our design is more to create a new kind of game and experience. A hugesquare movable seat is placed on a sunken square. Visitors sit on the inside of the chair. When the number of people on the four chairsis equal, the game can be started. Everyone uses their feet to control the direction of the chair movement. , Which side first moves theseat to the wall behind, which side is the winner. When the seat touches the switch on the rear wall, the ground of the victorious side willlight up and accompany the victory music to celebrate the victory. This game allows visitors to interact with each other. The combinationof lighting and music is a play time for everyone.

Public Seating of LUXES Island

Concept:

The curved rail, with movable and combinable public seats, makes it possible for various possibilities and interactivity.

The rail is linked by different shapes, allowing users to discover different ways of using them (e.g. semi-circular rail can be used for discussion). There are different types of seats to choose, regaining the fun of "riding a wooden horse" and "playing on a seesaw" in childhood. With the changing rail, seats, and partners, people will have more freedom in PLAY TIME. Freedom is the most important prerequisite for play.

Location: woods on the north side of the South Lawn of LUXES』 Island; the area is around 180 square meters (about 18X10m).

Expectation: the dense trees create natural narrow spaces, which forms a strong contrast with the open lawn on the south slope. The scene changes as people walk through and it is expected to creating an fun and interactive rest place in the middle of the forest, as well as a dreamy sense of detachment from everyday life.

Concept:

Multiple mirrors surround the site, reflecting the trees, forming a psychedelic field. There are various subconscious minds hidden in the field, including collective, personal, positive and negative. A bench gradually rises with the terrain and becomes a high wall. Tourists are invited to rest, walk, and watch the scenery. This is a small boat loaded with dreams.

The Pool

Epiphany Architects

Epiphany Architects is an architectural design firm founded in Los Angeles and currently in practice in Chengdu. Four partners graduated from UCLA, THE University of Southern California and Tongji University. The founding partner is a registered architect in the United States, a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), and is certified by the Green Building Association LEED AP.

The team insists on exploring the essence of things with people and space as the starting point through intuitive thinking and rational research. It is expected to make active use of the latest technology of present and future, break and extend the boundary of design, and create diversified design and thinking ways to adapt to the changing relationship between people and cities, society, nature and so on.

Concept:

We all have the experience of swimming in a pool, floating in the water, very comfortable. Well , have you ever had the experience of floating in the woods? The trees on the site bring a wealth of space and shadow. When you are in it, you will experience floating in the space. And when you lie in the Mpoof, and look at the sky and the silhouette of the branches, the net structure suports you. And when others get in, the net starts to wave, just like the motion of water waves, making you 「float」 in the woods.

「Pool」 is a seating furniture similar to a large hammock. The flowing pattern formed by the colorful nylon woven net and the mirror stainless steel will interact with your intervention. When you move around, the mirrored stainless steel panels reflect different pictures, giving you the illusion of <<flowM. At the same time, the supporting structure is cleverly concealed under the mirror. The illusory pattern, the reflection of the mirror, and the floating feeling of the net structure bring you a sense of 「swimming」 in the pool.

Concept:

The Project intends to put the mysterious and unstable dream like spaceinto site three. The design starts with following three aspects:

Tree,the ladder:
Steel structure with the similar scale of the tree branches is planted into theground. It becomes the path to the treetop and sky.

Shadow, space to rest:
Translucent volume are places between trees, partly hidden and partlyvisible. At night, they are lights that enable shadows to fall.

Chair, the floating body:
Minimum sized space limits human body in the treetops. Different move-ments are regulated at varied heights, as if you are flying in the mid air.

Thanks to all designers for their attention and participation in this competition. The project of LUXELAKES’s landing should be further evaluated in terms of cost and difficulty, and the decision should be made among the top three in this competition. At the same time, we will carry out the second round of selection in the winning design works. We hope that the excellent design works that fail to be launched in this competition can be launched on the bank of Xinglong Lake. Please wait for the official announcement of A8 Design Center!
