1)Liberal Studies Program(兩年項目)
https://liberalstudies.nyu.edu/about/core-program.html
First YearDuring your first year, you will take classes primarily in Liberal Studies, to establish a foundation in the liberal arts while fulfilling degree requirements for most NYU programs.
Writing Sequence
(formerly Writing I and II)
This two-semester Writing sequence focuses on expository writing, the presentation of argument, and the elements of research to equip you with communication skills essential to every field.
Arts and Cultures Sequence and Global Works and Society Sequence
(formerly Cultural Foundations I and II and Social Foundations I and II)
Based on the study of great works from antiquity to the Enlightenment, these complementary, two-semester sequences comprise a large-scale cultural history. In Arts and Cultures Sequence, you study literature, art history, and music, while in Global Works and Society Sequence you focus on philosophy, religion, political and social theory, and history. The sequences also provide an introduction to skills in critical analysis and synthetic thinking that are essential to successful study in all academic disciplines.
Natural Sciences
In addition, first-year students typically take a course in the natural sciences at Liberal Studies.
In your sophomore year, you finish LS Core Curriculum coursework while completing electives chosen from across NYU’s diverse programs.
Arts and Cultures of Modernity and Global Works and Society: Modernity
(formerly Cultural Foundations III and Social Foundations III)
Complete the curriculum with a third semester in Global Works and Society Sequence or the Arts and Cultures Sequence. Building on the genres and great works covered in your first year, these courses introduce modern mass forms like film, radio, television, and the Internet.
Natural Sciences
Students who will transition to the College of Arts and Science typically take a second natural science course as well.
Electives
This year, your advisor will guide you in choosing elective courses from NYU’s extensive offerings. These electives are designed to help you select a major or begin work in a particular field.
2)Global Liberal Studies(四年制專業)
Art Text Media
Critical Creative Production
Culture and Social Identities
Law, Ethics, History and Religion
Politics, Rights, and Development
Sustainability, Health, and the Environment
Bachelor of Arts in Global Liberal Studies,這也是該學院唯一提供的本科學位和專業。
Is Liberal Studies a bachelor’s degree program?
The Liberal Studies Core is a two-year curriculum featuring interdisciplinary, interconnected courses in the global great works. Through the core curriculum courses and elective courses, you will explore your major options and fulfill NYU graduation requirements in one innovative academic program. After you have successfully completed the curriculum at the end of sophomore year, you will continue as a junior in one of NYU’s degree-granting schools or programs, where you will earn a bachelor’s degree in your senior year.
What happens at the end of my sophomore year?
All Liberal Studies Core students are expected to continue in a bachelor’s degree program at NYU for their junior and senior years. Your LS academic advisor will guide you as you consider transition and major options. As a sophomore, you will declare a major during spring semester, after successful transition to your baccalaureate program. As a junior, you will continue your studies in your baccalaureate program. In order to transition to a bachelor’s degree program, students must be in good academic standing and meet specific program requirements in their prospective major or school.
Which degree-granting programs may I transition to following completion of the Liberal Studies Core curriculum?
NYU is characterized by its diversity of majors and programs. As an LS Core student, you will have access to the university’s varied academic programs, from the College of Arts and Science’s more than 60 majors, to a bachelor’s degree at the Tandon School of Engineering.
As is required of all NYU students, LS Core students who maintain good academic standing, who have completed a minimum of 64 credits, and who meet specific program requirements in their prospective major or school have the opportunity to transition directly to degree programs in these NYU schools:
Arts and Science (College of Arts and Science; Liberal Studies)
College of Global Public Health
Gallatin School of Individualized Study
Rory Meyers School of Nursing
School of Professional Studies (specific programs)
Silver School of Social Work
Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development (specific liberal arts programs)
Tandon School of Engineering (specific liberal arts programs)
LS Core students who meet the above requirements may also apply for internal transfer to the following colleges and degree programs at NYU. Application and/or additional materials (e.g. audition, portfolio) will be reviewed for admission to:
Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development (Music and Performing Arts; Art and Art Professions)
Stern School of Business
Tandon School of Engineering
Tisch School of the Arts
How will I determine which degree program to select?
Starting from your first semester, your LS academic advisor will address questions that are most important as you consider major options. LS Core students generally have one free elective each semester in the first year and three free electives each semester in the sophomore year. These elective spaces are used to complete requirements in your destination school, to explore potential majors, to begin introductory classes in a major, or to begin a minor. Advisors from the College of Arts and Science and from Steinhardt also have regular office hours in the LS Advising Office as a resource for students considering degree-granting programs within those schools.
Can I begin a major or a minor while at Liberal Studies?
Elective credits may be used to begin to complete requirements in your prospective school, to begin introductory classes in a major, or to begin a minor. In addition to minors available within schools, you also may pursue any of NYU’s cross-school minors that are available to undergraduates.
Which applicants are selected?
The admissions committee selects applicants for Liberal Studies who would thrive in an interdisciplinary curriculum with small, seminar-style classes where students are actively expected to engage in classroom discussion. Selected students may or may not have expressed an interest in a specific major or another school or college on their application for admission. The admissions committee, however, believes selected students would benefit from exploring the liberal arts at NYU and completing their general education requirements at Liberal Studies before committing to a major, minor, double-major, etc.
