A person with the most politeness is one of my workmates – Mary. I first met this person at a job interview, at that time, I was an interviewer, responsible for evaluating the teaching methods of the applicants. Mary was one of them and, as soon as I saw her, I was drawn to her. What she wore was just right for the interview, with a white shirt and a pair of black trousers, looking quite professional. I was almost sure that she would sail through the interview. However, when seeing other applicants in the same room, I was a bit disappointed, some of them even wearing flipflops. So, obviously, they wouldn’t pass the interview, no matter how great their teaching was.
Anyway, back to the topic, Mary indeed passed the interview successfully, and after experiencing the in-job training, she became a qualified teacher. Well, during work, I found out that she was such a polite person, not only to the workmates, but also to her students. I remember one day, she asked me whether she could change the required teaching plan a little by making some of the questions easier. This was because the class was a bit silent to answer any questions, she thought they might lack confidence and their English level was a bit lower than average. If she followed the plan as it was, most students would have lower self-esteem. In the end, they may give up learning English. After hearing what she said, I couldn’t agree with her more. Whilst at the same time, I began to reflect on my own class where, most of the time, I just followed the teaching plan, without thinking of how much the students were digesting the knowledge, let alone what their attitudes towards English learning were.
So, you see, Mary is really careful of other people’s feelings, and it’s no wonder the students all love her and rate her as the best teacher in our department. She definitely is a positive role model for everyone, and I wish I could be more like her.
