我發誓這是最後一篇關於百鳥朝鳳的推送....

其實我不是很喜歡這個電影，但最近除了它和《美隊3》沒有其他電影好寫的，所以還是用了這一部作為題材寫一個雅思口語範文。

Speaking of interesting novels, I did read an interesting and thought-provoking one a couple of weeks ago. It’s called Song of the Phoenix. My friend recommended it to me after he had watched the movie version of this novel. He really liked it. As I’m not much of a movie fan, a book would be perfect for me.

 

This novel talks about the life and trials of You Tianming, a young suona apprentice who takes over a suona troupe from his master. Suona is a very expressive and traditional instrument. It is very popular in China's vast countryside in funerals, weddings, and other celebrative occasions. But nowadays, the traditions of suona music are declining in Chinese society.

 

It didn’t take much time for me to finish this book. What makes the novel fascinating is You Tianming’s loyalty to his master and to the suona tradition. As a grown man, he has to face the painful reality that his chosen calling is no longer in tune with a modern, urbanized China.

 

I felt sad about You Tianming. He has spent years of practice to master suona, but people no longer like this kind of music when he becomes a master himself. He can’t make a living out of it if he continues to run the troupe. However, he also doesn’t want to abandon the suona tradition and find another way out.

 

This novel makes me realize suona music is some kind of traditional culture we should protect. And there are other dying cultures and art should be paid attention to. I believe the government is somehow responsible to keep all those declining traditional cultures alive.
