Dean and Valerie are 2 bright stars in M2adventure's team, thats why we decided to interview them together and see if we can discover more insights from their answers.
Apart from great at team leading and also great charactors, Dean is also secretly famous for his sex jokes and romantic stories; Valerie, on the other hand, a small tough cookie!
But even M2 were super surprised during the interview, they are More, Much More.;)
【Valerie & Dean】
Q: Is there any topic you guys wanna talk about?
V (stands for Valerie) : Umm? at this point i don’t think I’m a complete person because i lost my toe nails.
Q: How did you lost it?
V: In a Marathon, i wasn’t prepared at all that’s why.
Q: Is there anything you have done that you are proud of?
V: I passed DELF B2 (it’s a French Examination). I didn’t study in school but learn on weekends for the past three years. If I wanted to enter any universities in France, i won’t have to take the language exam anymore, it’s a pretty high level.
D (Stands for Dean) : Hiking in the Wild Great Wall. But i didn’t have the chance to camp there because you guys sent me to the other group who stayed in the Guest House T___T *Don’t worry Dean we will sent you back there xD*
Q: Introduce yourself in a few words?
V: Determined, perseverant, easy-going.
D: Strong mentality, Broad and profound love haha
Q: How do you think other people thinks about you?
V: Caring, considerate, easy-going.
D: Friendly, and funny sometimes.
Q: Is there anything in your childhood that influence of what you become today?
V: When i was 5 years old, my grandma tied me up on a big tree as a punishment from fighting with my sister. Life lesson learnt from that: crying doesn’t help. And i think because of that incident, i grew stronger.
D: I have a grandmother who passed away 1 year ago. She took care of us very well. I miss her so much and she is like my life model, i want to be like her, someone who take care of their family very well.
Q: Is there any Goal you want to achieve in life?
V: I want to see more of the world. Because i don’t think i have seen enough. I should』ve started discovering the world at younger days... to broaden my horizon and meet new people. You know meeting new people is like reading a book, you can learn a lot of things through conversation or simply watching them.
D: I want to own a NBA team. This is my goal. Because i’m a really big fan of NBA. For people like me, i can’t play in the court anymore, but i want to be in the court. Where people cheers and screams. What i can do and has been thinking of it ever since is to own a NBA Team.
Q: If you can have a chance to own one NBA team, which will you choose?
D: Houston Rocket *laughs* If there is a chance i want to buy this team!
Q: Are you the type to tell a secret you with a stranger?
V: I don’t think so. I’m kind of open-minded, but i don’t think i would tell a secret with a stranger. Actually when it comes to deep feelings, I don’t even easily disclose them to friends.
D: I think I am, nowadays i’m doing the Storytelling Event. When you tell other people about your story, it will bring us closer. Like when you open your heart to other people, they will do the same to you.
Q: What makes your life happy?
V: When i meet my friends and shares what’s happening between us, going on a hike, doing sports, work.
D: Hiking. Because that’s the only time i can forget about her. You know the feeling when you are on a hike, only thinking about the destination, and interact with other people. Otherwise, i would be thinking about her all the time.
Q: What scares you the most?
V: Death. Decade ago I witnessed death of my auntie. She was in critical condition and was sent back home because the doctors refused her. She was struggling to live, even just for a couple more minutes. So they give her some kind of injection…the local nurse was so scared to inject her that i took over and do it myself. I could tell from my auntie’s eyes how much she still wanted to be in this world and how she was looking at my cousin all the time, trying to utter more words… From then on, i realized how scary death is and how i should cherish my life, live the moment.
D: Like Valerie, I’m also scared of death and the death of people that i love. I don’t want them to go away from me. Because we have good relationship, and being around people who we care make us happier. And also farewell, i don’t like people who leave me. Like last month, one of my co-worker resigned her job and will move to another company. She was the one whom i always spend time with during lunch break, we had a lot of good memories, but after she moves away, lunch break will never be the same anymore.
Q: Is there anything that you have always wanted to do but never dare to do it?
D: To kiss and have sex with a girl i really like.
V: I was never that brave in term of relationship. I never dare to confess to the guy that i like.
Q: How do you spiced up your life?
V: Go on hiking trips, i actually really appreciate that i joined M2 in 2015. And also by doing sports, like jogging and workout.
D: Watch motivational videos on Youtube to keep me inspired. And twice or thrice a week i jog in the park, to strengthen both my mind and body.
Q: What’s the most recent video you』ve watched?
D: 「How to become a Millionaire」 ; 「How to make money in 9 ways」 ; 「How to build your confidence」. Videos that are related to improve your own strength.
Q: Do you guys like challenges? If yes, what kind?
V: One of the challenges i am facing during hiking is swimming and breathing skills, i can’t swim that far and jump into river like you guys do.
D: I want to swim 200m. For me I’m not good at swimming, i only know how to swim the dog style stroke. So i can’t swim far away, 50m at most. There was once during a hike, we took a more challenging path. One of the challenge was to swim over the river. Halfway swimming through the river, i lost my strength because dog style swimming requires a lot of strength and i had to rely on another guy to swim back. So that’s the challenge i have for myself, to be able to swim at least 200m or longer.
Q: So when do you plan on surpassing that challenge?
D: My goal is this year, we still have 3 months left, so i believe i can do it.
V: Me too, this year i want to be able to swim better before the year ends too.
Q: Do you remember any particular moment that moves you?
D: There was one trip, to YaDing, Mariane was there too. And the local guide keeps on talking about stuff that we should or shouldn’t do, keep on repeating, the people on the bus were losing their patience, and getting angry. It was Mariane who stood up and calm them down, i was touched by her. From then on, i really believes that speech is powerful. We can bring people together, inspire people, or even change people's life. That’s how i start doing the Storytelling event to improve my speech.
V: It was during last Chinese New Year, I got a scooter accident… my left face was all wounded, was dressed in bandages like a mummy… and lips were swollen like sausages… Some of my M2 friends came to the hospital and gave me a surprise visit – 「 Hospital Attack」 as they named it, it really moved me so much.
Q: Why are you in Shanghai?
V: I was born and raised here.
D: Shanghai has a lot of opportunities. If you work hard, and the opportunities comes, you might become a billionaire LOL
Q: What Shanghai gives and take away from you?
V: Living in Shanghai gives us opportunities to meet and talk to new people. Experience exotic life even you’re still in the same country. The bad thing about living here is that people come and go, I hate seeing friends leaving.
D: I』d say that i can’t be with my family when i lives here. Also unfamiliar people, i don’t get to live with people whom i grew up together.
Q: Would you consider yourself as a Shanghainese girl?
V: I don’t think so. I was born and raised in a farmer family. A decade ago we still owned a few paddy fields. Probably also because I didn’t study here, I went to Jiangxi Province for College. I don’t think I’m spoiled. Growing up in a farmer family, i had to help my family since i was a child.
Q: What does life means to you?
D: To influence other people.
V: To live the moment, enjoy as much as possible.
Q: What do you value the most in your life.
D: Family
V: Family for me too.
Q: Do you have any good hiking memories that you would like to share with us?
V: During one of M2 trips, Gongga trip was reeeeeally awesome. That was my first time hiking in high altitude, it was a little bit challenging for me and I threw up on the first day. I can tell it’s so different from normal hiking trip. But i was able to meet new friends and enjoy the most beautiful breath-taking views together, totally worth it!
D: It was always the Wild the Great Wall Hike with M2. Even though i didn’t get to camp on the wall *laughs* The hike has many dangerous part, you have to climb on falling rocks. And when i managed to climbed to the top, and look down to other people who are still struggling to climb up, i felt so great, i felt like i am the tallest person in the world.
Q: Are there any unique experiences you had during your trips?
D: There was one time, when i was sharing the hotel room with another two hikers. All of the sudden, i heard them having sex on the bed. I was laying in the couch, in the same room, pretending to sleep. That night, i couldn’t sleep at all and i think they had really good sleep afterwards.
V: I really appreciated the 2nd time leading M2 trip with Dean and Yunfei. That time we really hit it off with each other and stayed up all night chatting until 4 AM. Another unique trip was, we succeeded in surviving a stormy night in a tent on top of the Wugong Mountain, cuddling and sleeping overlapped with each other, we were FIVE in a 2-person tent, haha.
Q: What was the biggest adventure of your life?
V: I wanna do the EBC hike starting from Nepal side.
D: I want to conquer the Everest Mountain, climb all the way to the top. Going down is not really a big deal, climbing up is really challenging for me especially high mountains. I remember hiking the Gongga Mountain. That moment when i was climbing up, it was like hell, i thought i was dying, i was struggling so much. Climbing up for me is always a problem, that’s why if i can climb the Everest, that would be so amazing.
Q: Is there anything you would like to say to the readers of this interview?
V: If you’re already in the M2 Community, keep joining different trips and you will find it more interesting than you expected. If you’re not, join now! I was really happy to join the community since 2 years ago.
D: I don’t know what to say, umm, I LOVE YOU ALL *laughs*
