要記住中文裡面的全部家庭成員的名字是超級困難滴。不僅僅是對我而言喔，對中國人甚至亦是如此! 每當我教學生們關於「家庭稱謂」的時候，他們總是會爭論著中文裡要用什麼稱呼。
Remembering the names of all the family members in Chinese is super difficult. Not just for me, but even for Chinese people! When I teach 「family names」 to my students, they always debate over what it should be called in Chinese!
那是因為在中文裡嘛，你對你親人的稱呼取決於諸多因素。比如：
That’s because in Chinese, what you call your relative depends on so many factors! For example:
男性或者女性 Male or female
母親這邊或者父親這邊 Mom or dad's side
年長或者年幼 Older or younger
出生順序 Birth order (1st born, 2nd born, etc. < click link to learn about this word)
這些全部不同的組合導致幾乎有80種不同的詞彙
All those different combinations result in almost 80 different words!
謝天謝地。英語是如……….此………..簡單，因為我們關心的唯一因素就是男性或者女性。就只是這樣。那麼簡單.
Thank God English is sooooooooooooo much easier, because the ONLY factor we care about is male or female. That's it! Easy peasy!
在英語中，這是你所要說的。
This is all you have to say in English:
直系親屬：住在你家的家人
Immediate Family: Family who live in your house.
Mom 媽媽
Dad 爸爸
Son 兒子
Daughter 女兒
Brother 兄弟
Sister 姐妹
外延家庭：在你家外面的成員
Extended Family: Family members outside of the house.
Grandmother 奶奶；姥姥
Grandfather 爺爺；外公
Aunt 阿姨；嬸嬸；
Uncle 叔叔；舅舅
Niece 外甥女；侄女
Nephew 外甥；侄子
Cousin (can be male or female).
表兄弟姐妹；堂兄弟姐妹（可以是男性或者女性）
法律上：這些是因為某人結婚而進入你家庭的人。然後稱呼超級簡單哈! 只要用上一個姓，再加上-in law就行
In-laws: Those who join your family because someone got married. And it’s super easy! Just take the immediately family name, and add 「-in-law」
哦,還有一件事呢。對於我們（外）祖父母的父母而言，我們只是在「祖父母/祖母/祖父」前面加上一個「great」，要是更多代就加更多great。對於兒子和女兒，反之亦然。
Oh, one more thing. For our grandparent's mothers and fathers, we just add a 「great」 before 「grandparents / grandmother / grandfather」 and that just means their parents, or one more generation up. The same goes the opposite way, for son and daughter.
比如 / Example:
爸爸 《 祖父《 曾祖父 《 曾曾祖父 《 高曾祖父 《 等等 Father 《 Grandfather 《 Great grandfather 《 Great great grandfather 《 Great great great grandfather 《 and so on….
懂起？我剛才對你們講了什麼呢 ? 要記住的名字並不多哦，你也不用擔心是在媽媽或者爸爸的哪一邊，是年長或是年幼等等。所以 懂起了嗎 ?明白了嗎? 好。如果你的曾祖父母依然健在，待我向他們道聲好。 否則呀就只要告訴你的朋友，並轉發這篇文章給他們哦。
See? What did I tell ya? Not many names to remember at all, and you never have to worry about mom or dad's side, older or younger, etc. So, Get it? Got it? Good. If your great grandparents are still around, tell them hi for me. Otherwise, just tell your friends and send them this article.
