Every day many people are killed on the roads of our city. Many of these accidents are caused by careless driving.
Accidents are sometimes caused by drivers. These drivers sometimes turn without slowing down. (a) , sometimes accidents are caused by children. These children cross a road without looking.
Last year, over 600 people were killed in traffic accidents in this country. The worst time for traffic accidents is at night. These are also many traffic accidents on holidays. People must always be careful because most accidents are caused by carelessness.
a) Every day many people are killed on the roads of our city.
b) Accidents are sometimes caused by drivers. These drivers sometimes turn without slowing down.
c) Sometimes accidents are caused by children. These children cross a road without looking.
a. How many accidents were there in February?
There were 33 accidents in February.
b. In which month was there the least number of accidents?
There was the least number of accidents in April.
c. In which month was there the greatest number of accidents?
There was the greatest number of accidents in May.
d. What was the difference between the numbers of accidents?
The number of accidents in May is twice that of January. The number of accidents in May is four times that of June.
e. How many more accidents were there in March than in February?
There were 5 more accidents in March than in February.
f. What was the total number of accidents during the last three months?
During the last three months, the total number of accidents were sixty-six.
g. What was the average number of accidents per month from April to June?
From April to June, the average number of accidents per month was twenty-two.
Example: The graph shows the number of traffic accidents for the first six months of the year in a certain town. There were too many accidents in the town.
Example: A great number of people got injured or killed in the traffic accidents. We should try to reduce accidents on the road.
行人用詞:the child, he, the boy, the driver, the girl, the woman…
交通動作用詞:cause the accident, drive, turn, run across, stop, slow…
Example 1: The child caused the accident by driving carelessly.
Example 2: The driver caused the accident by turning suddenly.
Example 3: The boy caused the accident by running across the road.
Example: girl- cross- look
The girl crossed the road, but she didn’t look around.
The girl crossed the road without looking around.
a) woman driver- turn around- slow down
b) girl- drive- across- wide street- reduce- speed
因此,(a)處應該寫「On the other hand」或「Also」等「過渡詞」。
a) Every day many people are killed on the roads of our city.
→ Every day many people get killed on the roads of our city.
b) Accidents are sometimes caused by drivers. These drivers sometimes turn without slowing down.
→ Accidents are sometimes caused by drivers who turn without slowing down.
c) Sometimes accidents are caused by children. These children cross a road without looking.
→ Sometimes accidents are caused by children who cross a road without looking.
註:請考生注意(a)句,get也是系動詞,別總使用is或are
a) The woman driver turned around, but she didn’t slow down.
The woman driver turned around without slowing down.
b) The girl drove across the wide street, but she didn’t reduce the speed.
The girl drove across the wide street without reducing the speed.
