「Good will Hunting」 is the story of how a kid’s life edges toward self-destruction and how people try to haul him back.
Will Hunting is a janitor at MIT who likes parties and hang around with an old neighborhood, surprisingly, he can scribble down the answers to the questions the professor is baffled by. Doc. Lambeau, the math professor teaches at MIT, left a question that he spends two years to figure it out on the hallway board waiting for someone to solve it, unexpectedly, the question got solved. Who claims credit? None of the students does. A few days later, Lambeau catches Will Hunting at the board and realizes he’s the author—a natural mathematical genius who can intuitively see through the thorny problems. Lambeau wants to help Will, to get him in school, or collaborate with him someday.
He’s a tough nut. He sees nothing wrong with spending his whole life hanging around with his friends, quaffing a few beers, holding down a blue-collar job, he’s a math genius, but he doesn’t like it.
Sean McGuire, Lambeau’s college roommate, now a community college professor who has messed up his own life, but is a gifted counselor, Lambeau wants his to haul will back on track because he has some background as well, and Sean promised he will help this gifted kid. During counseling, Sean finds the scar in Will’s heart and peel his protection down, Will finds who he is with Sean, Will eventually followed his heart and get on the road.
Conflict takes place between Lambeau and Sean, Lambeau can’t see a gifted kid wasting his talent, but Sean sees Will to the inside, he claims he needs to follow his heart. It must be heartbreaking to be able to appreciate the true genius and yet just short of it yourself. Lambeau uses his entire life studying to be a mathematician, but Will can just solve them with natural feeling like Mozart can play the piano and write those songs without a teacher.
Chase something your passionate about or focus on what you good at, it is still a debatable question.
