need是「需要，需求」的意思，這大家都知道。
但是有些人學習可能不是很用心，就會忽視它的不同詞性。
Need在句子中可以做「名詞；實義動詞和情態動詞」。
尤其是做實義動詞和情態動詞是，在疑問句和否定句是有不同的形式的。
做情態動詞，和所有情態動詞一樣，疑問句裡情態動詞提前；否定句裡情態動詞後加not：
Need I say more?
還需要我多說嗎？
Need I remind you that it's Monday?
需要我提醒你今天是星期一嗎？
（疑問句中，need大多用實義動詞句型，need提前到主語前為數不多）
You needn't stay in the office all day.
你不必整天呆在辦公室裡。
We needn't worry about the weather.
我們不必擔心天氣。
You need not have paid for the parcel.
你本不必付包裹的錢。
做實義動詞，疑問句和否定句都是加助動詞do，does和did：
Did the villagers need to earn money outside in the cities before?
以前村民需要到外面城市裡掙錢嗎？
Do you need more time to finish it?
你需要更多的時間來完成它嗎？
Does the bird need to migrate to the South in the winter?
這種鳥冬天需要遷徙到南方嗎？

need後直接跟了另一動詞，need就是情態動詞；
He need only tell her his trouble.
他只需要告訴她他的困難。
Did you say that I need come again?
你說我需要再來一次嗎？
Every one need walk across the stream because the old bridge is broken.
因為那座舊橋壞了，每個人都需要步行過河。
need後是名詞；動詞不定式；動名詞（比較少，）need是過去式，分詞，第三人稱單數等，那need就是實義動詞。
It’s true that everyone needs money to survive today.
如今每個人都需要錢才能生存。
We need to plant more trees in the West.
我們需要在西部種更多的樹。
The plant needs watering.
=The plant needs to be watered.
植物需要澆水了。
More bottled water and food are needed in the area hit by the earthquake.
地震災區需要更多的瓶裝水和食品。
