Yeah you got it! Read after me: MU-SIC HISSS-TORY!
WWWWUUUUTTTT?????
OK I know, you totally don't understand this.
Well, in our music channel, we are going to have a glance at the Western music history!!!
Isn't it fun? Well, you'll get it once you get to know about it.
Well, let's have an overview of it first...
Yes! That's it!
So today we'll gonna get into the them - no - have a little warm up AND THEN GET TO THE THEME.
Let's go!!!
Now, let's play this music and answer these questions. This music is a piece of Beethoven called the Spring Sonata.
What instrument(s) do you play?
Let's have a little survey... (I bet there are a lot of pianists...)
Good. Now what type of instrument is it?
If you don't really know the types of instruments, here is my own explanation.
Keyboards: including the most popular instrument - piano. Keyboard instruments use keys for players to press in order to make sound.
Brass: including the trumpet. Brass instruments are always made of metal. Players use their mouth to blow their sound.
Percussion: including the drums. Percussion instruments need you to use something to hit another thing in order to make sound.
Woodwinds: including the flute and even saxophone (even though it is made of metal). Player also use their mouth to blow their sound. The difference between BRASS and WOODWIND is that brass sounds enthusiastic and magnificent but woodwind sounds quite melodius and gentle.
Strings: violin, viola, cello, bass and more!!! They are the major instruments in an orchestra. The string instruments make sound using the vibration of strings.
START:
Have you ever heard of Greek Mythology? It is a very complicated but fun mythology.
Have you ever heard of the Muses? There are nine of them in total.
So here's an Greek root stuff. The word MUSIC can be split into two parts:
MUSE-IC. Which means, "about the Muses".
I think you have guessed it out: the Muses are the ones who are in charge of music - the music goddesses.
Nah. They are actually in charge of a lot of liberal art stuff such as poetry.
So here are the ones who are the music goddesses:
What is ancient Greece music???
At that time, there are some musical instruments: not piano, not violin, not the ones that you play. They are the LYRE, the SYRINX, and the AULOS. They have very pure sounds and here are some pictures of them:
LYRE is an string instrument - in Greek mythology, the symbol of Apollo. It is very sacred and being loved by a lot of Greeks. There is also a constellation called LYRA.
SYRINX - syrinx is kinda like a row of flutes.
AULOS - here is a painting on an ancient Greek ceramic about a woman playing the aulos.
REAL ONE...
We don't really know the composers of ancient Greek music, but at least - there is music that we can enjoy. Well... A lot of the compositions was now lost.
Anyway - next time you see Apollo's statue, you will see him holding the... LYRE!!!
We'll see you next time when we get to the :
