Introduction
What goes around comes around they say,
and it’s true in most cases!
This story is about a giant
who made his garden as cold as his heart
by not allowing anyone in but himself.
He built a wall around his garden,
so that the children
who would usually come play in his trees
and on his lawn could not enter
his territory anymore. Soon after,
winter kept ooon staying around him and in his garden,
while the whole world was already entering spring,
summer and eventually autumn.
One day, just when the giant felt very cold and miserable, something miraculous happened
that made him realize
that selfishness only makes a person lonely
and very very cold…

奧斯卡·王爾德（Oscar Wilde，1854年-1900年）
英國作家、戲劇家、詩人。生於都柏林，畢業於牛津大學。
雖主要以成人作家而著稱，但早期作品中有兩本童話集：
《快樂王子故事集》和《石榴之家》已載入英國兒童文學史冊。
《自私的巨人》是王爾德童話作品最短的一篇，
