我小朋友翻譯被我揪出來個小錯誤，她坦陳對until有種恐懼感，很多人都區分不開這兩個，用的時候很混亂。甚至別說使用了，閱讀都有問題。
首先先看一下until的含義：

我們注意到until即是介詞又是連詞, 這裡也是大家迷惑的源泉，到底是直到·····為止還是是直到···才？要確定具體是哪個含義，要區分開哪種情況是介詞及連詞~
如下圖所示：
介詞 prep.
直到...時,到...為止
Will this fish keep until tomorrow? 這魚能擱到明天嗎?
(用於否定句)在...之前,直到...才
She didn't go to bed until eleven o'clock. 她直到十一點才上床睡覺
連接詞 conj.
1. 直到...時,到...為止
You can wait here until help comes.
你可以在這裡等，直到有人來幫你。
2. (用於否定句)在...以前,直到...才
She didn't go to bed until her daughter came back.
她一直等到女兒回來才去睡覺
「not…until」」意思是：「直到……才……」 表示在這個界限之前一直沒有發生這個動作
「until」」意思是：「直到……」 表示這個動作一直延續到這個界限出現時。
（易錯點：將「not…until」」句型翻譯成了否定句，如上句：直到我回來你不可以離開）
wait、keep是延續性動詞，所以用肯定形式；而go to bed、leave是非延續性動詞，所以用否定形式。
用「until」還是「not....until」要看謂語動詞是延續性還是非延續性動詞
until用做連詞時，要注意以下幾點
連接的是兩個句子，要分清哪部分是主句、從句，主句在until之前，從句在until之後 「直到」後+從句，「才」後+主句
not…until 主句中的謂語要加not進行否定；從英文上看是否定形式，但中文要譯成肯定形式「直到…才…」
對not…until的強調結構為「It is / was not until… that… 」雖然兩者都有not進行了否定，但中文要譯成肯定「直到……才……」
It was not until yesterday that I noticed it. =I didn’t notice it until yesterday. 直到昨天我才注意到此事。
It was not until I saw Mary that I felt happy. =I didn’t feel happy until I saw Mary 直到見到瑪麗我才高興起來。
It is / was not until + 從句 + that +主句
not…until句型和It is / was not until…that…強調句型可以互相轉換
Not until…放在句首，該句型中的主句用倒裝結構，until引導的從句不要倒裝。
主句倒裝時要注意以下幾點：
1.主句倒裝時注意主句中的謂語動詞是is/are/am/was/were時，將此be動詞提到主句的主語前面；
2.主句中的謂語動詞是實意動詞，時態為現在/過去時，將do/does/did提前到主語前，完成時將have/has/had提到主語前；
3.主句中的謂語由情態動詞構成時，將情態動詞如can/may/must/could等提到主句的主語前。
4.主句中時態為將來時，將will等提到主句中的主語前面。
