（1）防止偏題跑題，以一道真題為例The Internet is as important as other service, such as building roads, so government should make the Internet access to all the citizens at no cost.很多同學漏了at no cost免費這個關鍵詞，通篇都是談論政府提供網際網路的必要性和好處，完全沒有涉及是否免費，屬於偏題，甚至原本能得30分的文章就很難得到22分以上的分數。還有各種小幅偏題，擦邊球，都會造成分數不同程度受影響。考試有時間壓力又緊張，可能難免粗心看錯或理解錯，看機經時可以做好審題。
（2）準備思路。很多題比較難以想到理由，例如一道寫作真題：現在的學生比過去更對政治感興趣。之前沒有接觸過這種生僻體裁，想不到理由和素材，平時訓練獲得的論述和展開能力完全用不上，自然會影響到分數。準備機經就把考場上思考理由和構思的時間節省下來，有更多的時間去寫文章和做好展開
