日前教育部召開新聞發布會，決定從3月開始，組織專人對高校落實國家助學貸款的情況進行巡迴督察和督辦，對於經辦銀行提出的不按時還款等嚴重違約的學生，將在新聞媒體上公布這些學生的姓名、身份證號、畢業學校等信息。

報導中的loan defaulters 可以用文章裡的另一句話來解釋，即the debtors who fail to repay their interest-free college loans（拖欠償還銀行所發放的無息貸款的學生）。Defaulter來源於動詞default（拖欠債務；違約不履行義務），舉個例子：He defaulted on his payments for support of the child（他拖欠給孩子的撫養費），句中的介詞on可以省略。
值得一提的是，default除了有"拖欠"的意思外，還常表示"比賽棄權；法庭傳訊時未出席"，例如：They defaulted in the badminton tournament（他們在羽毛球錦標賽中棄權了），相應的，defaulter可以指"缺席者，受傳時不到庭的人"。另外，default做名詞時常和介詞by連用，如：He lost the tennis match by default（他因棄權而輸了網球賽）。
